Natalie Gulbrandsen Obituary

GULBRANDSEN--Natalie Webber, former Moderator of the Unitarian Universalist Association, of Newton, MA, formerly of Wellesley, MA, died at her home on October 17, 2007. Born July 7, 1919 in Beverly, MA, she was the oldest of five children born to Kathryn Mary Doherty and Arthur Hammond Webber. A graduate of Beverly High School, 1937, and Bates College, 1942, she committed boundless energy to the community, her church and the larger world. She was married to Dr. Melvin H. Gulbrandsen, a Wellesley dentist, for 48 years. Mrs. Gulbrandsen served two terms as Moderator of the Unitarian Universalist Association and President of the International Association for Religious Freedom. She received honorary degrees from Meadville Lombard Theological School and Bates College as well as the Unitarian Universalist Distinguished Service Award for lifetime service. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, a brother and extended family. There will be visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., Wellesley, MA, on Friday, November 9, 2007 from 5-8pm and a celebration of her life at 10:30am on November 10, 2007 at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Natalie Gulbrandsen Ministerial International Scholarship Fund, 25 Beacon St., Boston, MA.
