Dear Audrey and the family,,

I was one of the first customers at the new Divino Restaurant in the late 1970's. I would eat there 2 or 3 nights a week and introduced so many to the wonderful dining experience.
My ex-wife and I spent many wonderful dinner on Cape Cod with Antonio and Audrey.

I have always returned to "my favorite restaurant in NY" often.

I retired last year and have not been to NYC in awhile and tonight I was having dinner as a guest at another Italian restaurant and was asked by the owner "How was dinner" I said it was good but I always enjoyed Divino and that's when I learned of the news of Antonio's passing.

I was so shocked I jumped in a taxi and went to the restaurant immediately to speak with Mario and it was closed.

MY heartfelt condolences to the whole family (which is world wide).

Unfortunately I just heard yesterday about Antonio. (Jan. 8, 2008). I was deeply saddened to hear about Antonio's death. He used to advertise in my publication AT YOUR SERVICE MAGAZINE and even though he didn't advertise anymore, I always looked forward to eating there and enjoying conversations with him. He always was proud talking about his sons and always prayed for their safety. He was the perfect restaurant host, knowing everyone who came into his restaurant and when someone new would appear, he always made sure to introduce himself and tell them to enjoy themselves. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Antonio.

Dear Audrey, Marco, Roberto & Mario,
Antonio will be sorely missed. He had a gift of making everyone feel welome in his restaurant. We will miss his wonderful smile, his kindness and his laugh. Kristina & I had many wonderful times at Divino's. The world has lost a shining star. Much love & hugs to you and your sons.

Dear Audrey, Marco, Roberto, and Mario: There was never a better friend then Antonio. My friend Michelle introduced me to Antonio way back at Cafe Divino. Michelle was a nurse that took care of Antonio at Lenox Hill. Soon my family: MaryAlice and Greg Olsen and Kristina, and my friends: Lourdes, Chip, Michelle and Dee were celebrating life regularly at Divino's. We loved Antonio and his family. My husband and I, wish to express our deepest sympathies to a family who was so loved by Antonio. Mario, you and Antonio made us feel so welcome, my deepest sympathy as well.

I was traveling this past weekend when I read the NY Times notice. My family and I are in shock over the death of Antonio who I have known since the beginning of Divino. It was always a pleasure to have Antonio stop by the table and talk with us mostly about his boys in the service. He was a wonderful, warm and kind and sweet human being and we shall all miss him. Our love, heart, and prayers go out to Audrey, Roberto and Marco and may Antonio rest in everlasting peace. Our deepest sympathy to all the staff at Divino and particularly to Mario. We shall not forget this wonderful man.

I was shocked to learn of Antonio's passing. I had known him for 29 years. We met through a close friend that we lost in 1983. We lived in the same neighborhood for years. Sometimes I would see him in the mornings. I would hear ciao bella and we'd walk and chat together for a block or two. He was always cheerful chatting about family, friends we had in common and the restaurant. When I dined there he always treated me, my family and friend's as though we were special customers and friends. I think he had a gift of making many feel that way. Now whenever I think of Antonio I will always smile and feel a little emptiness in my heart.

We lived in the East 80's and went to Divino's for years. After we moved to Hoboken 7 years ago, we continued to come back to Divino's. We have spent many wonderful evenings there; seeing Antonio's welcoming smile as we came in or having him stop by our table to chat was always a highlight. He was a kind, warm, interesting man. He spoke so lovingly of his family. Our deepest sympathy to his family and all of the people at Divino's. We feel blessed to have known Antonio.

Antonio, we will always remember your smile and the countless entertaining and delicious meals at Divino. You and the restaurant felt like part of our family, giving us fond memories and helping us through difficult times. We will never forget your attentiveness when my mother and brother died. We know you will keep them laughing and well-fed in Heaven. We love you.

I was fortunate to work for Antonio for the past 4 years. His dedication to serving his customers was always what I admired. He was so proud of his sons for serving our country.
His sense of humor always made the work fun. I was always so excited to invite friends to his restaurant. He made you feel at home. He catered my partner’s birthday party which I will never forget. My deepest condolences go out to his family and the staff at Divino’s. He will be truly missed and always remembered fondly in our hearts.
