OMGsshh. How is it possible so many years have passed already? Remembering that cute little guy that play baseball with my kids, that handsome young man graduated high school with my son, strong young man, serving our country at the same time that my kids were serving. And now all these years later memories come flooding back. I have no doubt the years. Don´t make it any easier when these anniversaries come around, but we can be comforted and know that rest with our Lord my prayers for peace and comfort for the family. I was looking through the USS DRUM 677 crew list and read that Steve had passed. My heart goes out to his family. I served with him in the the navy while aboard the Drum. He was my friend and brother of the "dolphins". I will always remember his smile and the great times we had while serving our country. He will always be in my memories.

Wow... my heart has been pricked! I knew Steve and Sean well. Sean and I went to Junior High School and Highschool together. My sister and Steve went to Mainland together. Such comedians! May you always reflect on the times that brought you joy and made you smile. Steve has gone from our midst, but will never be forgotten!

I went to high school with Steve, and though I did not know him well, I still remember how gentle and kind he was. He always had such a great presence and made everyone feel accepted. I am very sad to learn that the world has lost such a good guy like Steve. My deepest prayers to the family.

I served onboard the Drum with Steve and was very sadden by the news of his passing when viewing the Drum website. He was a very fine sailor and well respected by the crew and myself. Even in the most difficult of circumstances he always had a smile and wise crack or two that made others laugh. He was a fine submarine sailor and it was a pleasure knowing him. I am just finding out about the loss of Steve. It saddens me to here of his passing. We had so many good times growing up and playing soccer. I have so many fond memories of both Steve and Sean. It has been a few years since I spoke to Steve, but I found him online a few years ago and looked him up, we had great conversations and then lost contact again. I have been trying to find him for months now, knowing he would be at our reunion. Steve and Sean have always held a place in my heart, and Steve will be missed tremedously. I want to say that I know your loss, I lost my grandmother, my father and my nephew (Keith Hyland) with in 3 months. The loss is hard and each day is hard, it never gets better, but it does get easier to live day to day.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I want to thank your family for giving me the opportunity to know all of you and all of the great memories and pictures I have to cherish.

I am sorry to learn of Stephen's passing. I went to St. James school with him and Sean, and while that was a long time ago I recall that he was a really good guy (as well as formidable to play defense against on the soccer field). Please accept my sympathies for your loss.

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I know this is a very trying time for you. Steve was without question one of the finest humans that I have known. It warms my heart to read the many happy memories that others had of him.
To the family (Ms. Skillern, Sandy, Leah Ann, brothers, nieces and nephews), please know that Steve loved and respected you greatly - this I know, because he told me so.
It is at times like this that I realize nothing in the world IS fair. I trust that we all will use this time to reflect on how we live our daily lives: using the way in which Steve lived his as our model.

Meeting Steve in 1992 while living in San Diego was the best thing that ever happened to me. My heart breaks with his passing as he was the greatest friend that any individual could have and I loved him very much. Life will not be the same without him. I will always cherish our 14 years of memories. To Freeda, Sean, Sandy, Scott and the Skillern family - I love you all very much.

Although I did not spend time with Steve personally, it was evident during our years in high school that he had a great love for others. I have pondered for the last few weeks to say the right words, and I realized that life is so precious and many of us are very busy racing against time. I would like to share a few lines from a favorite poem.

"Ever lost touch, let a good frienship die because you never had time to call and say 'hi'?"
"You better slow down. Don't dance so fast. Time is short and the music won't last."
My husband Scott and I wish a lifetime of wonderful memories will give strength to Steve's family and friends in the days ahead.

As a member of the class of 1987, Steve was a dedicated member of both the football, and baseball teams,a fun, loving and vibrant classmate who never new a stranger and always kept a smile and a kind word. But, God in his infinite wisdom and mercies gives us tears to wash away some of the pain and our minds to hold onto and cherish the many memories. Steve shall surely be missed by many. To the Skillern Family: Words can not express how sorry I am to hear of such a great loss. Steve was a great friend to me at MSH. Even though we went our separate ways after HS, I often wondered how Steve was doing and always hoped for the best for him. I would have loved the chance to talk to him one more time. I will always have great memories of Steve and I together having a blast and trying not to get into too much trouble. Steve meant a lot to me and I hope that as my daughter grows older and goes to HS that she also will ahve a "STEVE" in her life.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Stephen. I have nothing but fond memories of the Skillern family. My family and I played Holly Hill baseball with Steve, Sean and Scott. Stephen was one of the best ball players I ever had the pleasure to watch and coach. I have many memories of Holly HIll All Stars and just great clean competition between all the great kids that played in Holly Hill Baseball. It left me with ever lasting memories. Please know that Stephen was always a gentleman. Also a great team mate. I miss the days when we all would end up at Holly Land Park and "PLAY BALL". I was a lucky man, I got to coach Stephen Skillern. He was and is an All Star.

Shocked is not the word. Sadness at the worlds' loss is more accurate. I have a special place in my heart for Stephen that only a few know and understand. I have many wonderful and fond memories of Stephen and our time together over the years as well as when we lived together in San Diego. My son Shannon Treadway played baseball with Steve and his father was our coach, we had such great times back then, so many years ago. I am saddened to learn of Steve passing and hope there is a large support group around the family. Having lost a child in Jan of this year at age 30, we know all to well what that pain is like. I Have not heard from the family since We all played baseball with each other back in elementary and jr. high school.I knew I would here about steve again but I figured it would be on draft day with a big sports team. I am very sorry for the the loss of such a great hearted person who taught me alot about baseball and sportsmanship.One of the last times I saw him was at my Birthday party At starlite skate rink all the brothers gave me a gold baseball glove and ball necklace.I will never forget that day.My prayers are with the family. It just seems like yesterday that we were all just joking around and having such a good time at Mainland. It is sad how time slips away and we lose touch. I was saddened to hear of Steve's transition. My children went to school with Steve and his siblings. My daughter Kelly was especially close to Steve throughout their school years. My heart is broken and weeps for it is hard to grasp the fact that Steve is no longer with us. Steve and Sean were my brother's and there will always be cherished memories of us together. Whether it was playing baseball, football, beach vollyball, UT football games, or just hanging out and dreaming about where our lives would take us, Steve was always an inspiration.
