Signe Antos Obituary

Celebration of Life for Signe Antos, 93, Ormond Beach, will be held Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Lohman Funeral Home, Ormond. Signe died in her sleep April 3, 2007, at Ormond in the Pines in Ormond Beach. She had been in declining health but was still active visiting friends and family and especially playing bridge, her favorite activity. The fifth of eleven children, she was born on the windswept plains of North Dakota on September 6, 1913, to Norwegian immigrant farming parents. She prided herself on her Viking ancestry and her pioneer heritage. After her marriage to Henry Antos in Duluth, Minn., in 1937, she was a lifelong resident of northern Minnesota raising three children. Widowed for 34 years, she was fiercely independent but always exhibited a profound humanity for all persons in any walk of life. In later years, she often wintered with her daughter, Charlene, in the Washington D.C., area and later in Florida near her son, Dr. Jim Antos, Daytona Beach. As much as she enjoyed Florida, when spring came she couldn't wait to return to her home in Bemidji, Minn., to be near her son John, her lifelong friends and her fellow members of the First Lutheran Church, where she belonged for over 50 years. She is survived by a daughter, Charlene (Walter) Carlson, Sarasota; two sons, John (Kay) Antos, Crosslake, Minn., and Dr. James (Mary) Antos, Daytona Beach; and five grandchildren, Stephen (Aili) and Christopher (Eva) Carlson, Katie (Peter) Antos-Ketcham, and Joshua (Doris) and James (Kim) Antos; as well as six great-grandchildren. In her immediate family, she is survived by two younger sisters, Marian Wagendorf, Hettinger, N.D., and Phyllis Reinke, Queens Creek, Ariz. Preceding her in death were her husband, Henry Antos, who passed away in 1973; her parents, Conrad and Johanna Davidson; five brothers, Ecof, Clarence, Sigurd, Norman and Walter; and three sisters, Dagney, Myrtle and Dorothy. She loved her family and was a loyal friend and compassionate to all. In return, she was well loved and will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service is planned in Bemidji, Minn., in early summer followed by interment in Duluth, Minn.
