Christine ABBOTT Obituary

Christine Hawkins Abbott

Christine Hawkins Abbott, Dec. 21, 1909-Aug. 30, 2008, was born in Cifax, the first -born child of Olivia Cox Hawkins and Clifton Edward Hawkins.

Christine was a long- standing member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

As a young bride, she and her husband, Saint Claire Abbott, moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They returned to their Virginia roots after Saint's retirement from Coca-Cola. She has been a widow since the last day of March, 1982, when she found her beloved husband of more than 50 years collapsed in their rose garden.

Christine is survived by her brother, Clifton F. Hawkins and his wife, Virginia, of Lynchburg, and her brother Wayne J. Leftwich of Madison Heights. Her first cousin, Joyce Williams, was like a sister to her.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward M. Hawkins and J. Preston Leftwich and two sisters, Arline H. Owen and Edith H. Brooks.

Never having children of her own, she kept her nieces and nephews entertained by asking the Virginia Tech fans and graduates about the UVA graduates and fans and vice versa. She was always inter-

ested in all of her nieces and nephews, Barbara H. and John R. Dieterman of Saint Simons Island, Ga.; John Hawkins of Lynchburg; Wayne and Stephanie Hawkins of Amelia; H.B. and Sandra Brooks of Lynchburg; Linda and Clarence Waskey of Nellysford; Joyce Ann Staton of Madison Heights; and Donald Hill of Houston, Texas; Betty and Larry Arrington of Forest; Doug and Patty Hawkins of Lynchburg; Brenda and John Hon of S.C.; Cindy Mann of Lynchburg and Frances Abbott White of Madison Heights.

The Rev. Dr. Tom Thomas and the Rev. Steve Parker will officiate the graveside service for Christine Hawkins Abbott at 11 a.m. on Thursday Sept. 4, 2008, at Virginia Memorial Park in Forest. The family will receive friends and family after the service in the Fellowship Hall of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Church, P.O. Box 174, Goode, VA 24556.
