Dear Carter Family,

I offer my condolences to the Carter family for the loss of Calvin. The world has lost a fine gentleman. Members of The Leftwich Historical Association have been stopping by his store to see him over the past sixteen or more years. He never saw a stranger, and he shared so much local and family history with us....some that we published in our annual history journal. Carter's Store will never be the same without him. We will surely miss this wonderful man.

To the Carter Family:
Let me repeat again: He was a great man. He will be sorely missed. He was a friend to everyone he spoke to. When my sisters visited from Georgia and Texas, they went to Carter's store and really enjoyed his stories. Altavista and Campbell County will miss all him.

Adelle and family,
Chip, Susan, Frank and I are so glad we got to spend time with Calvin this summer in July. We enjoyed seeing the old post office, the store, the church and cemetery, but most of all we enjoyed just talking about Leesville, asking questions, and sharing what we remember when we were growing up. We Hamlett children enjoyed spending 5 days together at Susan's, but the highlight of our time together was spending time with Calvin. He was a great man. We will miss him so much. We always thought of him as our uncle even though it was by marriage. We love you.

Chip/Lee,
Your Dad was a very special man that not only his family will miss, but the entire community. I will never forget the times I would be hunting and stop by the store for lunch. He always remembered your name and treated you like family. My family and I are sorry for your loss and are praying for all of you.
