Mary CARWILE Obituary

Mary Wilson Carwile

Mary Wilson Carwile, 81, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at her residence after an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Watsy Morelle Carwile Jr.

Born Oct. 15, 1926, in Big Island, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Davis and Nellie Putt Wilson. She was a retired employee of Brown Morrison Inc., a long-time active member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a former member of Inglewood Garden Club.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard G. Thompson; her daughter, Susan Kay Thompson; two brothers, Robert Edward Wilson and Samuel A. Wilson; and her sister, Edith Wilson. She is survived by six daughters, Martha C. Shelton and husband, Bobby, of Lynchburg, Mickey C. Johnson of Lillington, N.C., Ann C. Miller and husband, Douglas G., of Bedford County, Mary C. Collins and husband, Jerry, of Richmond, Bonnie C. Gregory of Lynchburg and Kay C. Panter of Fayetteville, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Centenary United Methodist, with the Rev. Richard Ecklund officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today, Sept. 28, 2008, at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel.

Martha & family, Mary was one of the nicest people who has ever graced our lives. We all loved her, as we did Shorty and are sad to hear this news.
