With great sadness I learned recently of Dr. Eliel's death. I remember his loyalty as a member of Sigma Xi. My most heart felt condolences go to Eva and the family.

Eva,

Ernest was very good to me when I began my tenure at ND in 1961. I fondly remember him and you at various gatherings at that time.
Sincerely, Fr. Joseph Walter, CSC

While running around in the basement of Kenan's chemistry library checking the citations in Dr. Eliel's book "Stereochemistry of Organic Compounds", I had the pleasure to study this book in its galley proof form - and what a pleasure! Dr. Eliel told me to always adhere to my integrety and to what I believed in, particularly with respect to chemistry. I do. Dr. Danae M. Schuster (PhD from UNC-CH).

At the same time as we mourn the passing of this great man, we can celebrate his meaningful life and monumental contributions to chemistry. I will always remember his and Eva's friendship and kindness during my year at Chapel Hill. Ted Cohen
