Wilbur "Doe Belly" Marshall Fretwell, 72, of Stuarts Draft, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008, at his residence.

Born Monday, November 11, 1935, in Augusta County, he was the son of the late Lawrence Jackson and Ruth Virginia (Gilbert) Fretwell.

Wilbur was employed as a truck driver with Shenandoah Distribution Center, Lyndhurst, and after more than 35 years of service he retired. Wilbur was fond of hunting, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being around his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Kathryn Fretwell of Stuarts Draft; two daughters, Linda Fretwell and her companion, Wayne Jarvis, of Stuarts Draft, and Shelly F. Harris also of Stuarts Draft; one sister, Janet Nuckolls and her husband, John, of Stuarts Draft; three grandchildren, Dustin W. and Wesley Ryan Jarvis, and Rachel Marie Harris, all of Stuarts Draft; one great-grandson, Buck Aden Jarvis of Stuarts Draft; son-in-law, Gary A. Harris of Staunton; numerous nieces and nephews; two special friends, Bill Simmons of Stuarts Draft, and Calvin Wolfe of Churchville; and his special canine friend and ice cream buddy, Rosie.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Augusta Memorial Park Cemetery, Waynesboro, with Pastor Earl Monroe officiating.

Active Pallbearers will be Bill Simmons, Kenny Beverley, Herb LePlatt, Gary Eavers, Petie Eavers and Sam Sensabaugh.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2008, in the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway.

Memorial contributions may be sent to either, the Stuarts Draft VFW, Post 9339, 3251 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477, or to the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 260, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477.

I am so sorry to hear of Wilbur's passing . He was like a brother to me growing up. It was always fun and lots of laughter when we were around Wilbur never a dull moment. He was a joy to be around..
