Roy E. "Pappy" Brinkley Jr.

Roy Ernest "Pappy" Brinkley Jr., 84, of Crimora, died early Wednesday morning, October 1, 2008, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born January 14, 1924, in Wytheville, Virginia, a son of the late Roy E. Brinkley Sr. and Maude Humphrey Brinkley.

He was a Lifetime Member of Crimora-Dooms VFW Post #452, and a former member of the Jollivue-Barterbrook Ruritan Club. He loved to hunt and fish and did woodworking, carpentry work and gardening; he also loved to share "a good meal" with family and friends.

Roy was truly an inspiration to his family and friends.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Augusta Medical Center, who gave him such good care and AMC Hospice of the Shenandoah, for all their love and care during his last days at home.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
