I remember riding my bicycle to the Harley-Davidson dealer on Route 109 when I was a kid and how patient and friendly Gene was with us kids. I think the last time I saw Gene was in 2002 when I rode my Harley Sportster up from Florida. I'm now almost 65 years old and still ride a Sportster. Thank you Gene for creating a Sportster legacy for me.

Mr. B,
You are missed more than you will ever know.
December 1, 2009
I first met Mr Baron in Babylon in the early 1970's, he was partners with a man named Jack Ricca, in the year 1974 I bought my first xlch sportster from him, in 1976 I again saw him at the route 109 shop and purchased another sportster, a 1976 xlch 1000-cc bike, that I still ride to this day.
The man was/is a very strong influence on people like myself and will NEVER be forgotten, if you live on Long Island you know/knew GENE BARRON, thanks for all the great talks and stories I will never forget, may he rest in peace, Michael Mandriota, suffolk county, New York....

Gene Baron was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. I met Gene for the first time in 1995 when I purchased my first Harley and will never forget his smile, kindness and his stories about motorcycle racing. Rest in peace Gene and know you'll be missed by many friends.

I first met Gene at Jack Tracey's H-D an bicycle shop on So. B'way in Yonkers, NY in 1948 where he was the H=D mechanic. I joined the Yonkers M.C. and rode with him andagainst him in many competitions over the years. He got me into the Enduro's and after a 2 year stint in the Army I helped him and Tommy Ketham open their H-D shop in Dec. 1952 on Montauk h'way in Lindenhurst. They bought the dealership froma man in Patchogue and seeing as I was the only one that had a car at that time we moved all the parts and equipment to that little store just west ofWellwood Ave. That was Baron and Ketcham Harley Davidson of Suffolk County!!. I bought his '52 "K" model and they fixed it for me to race. Raced Laconia in June 1953 and then went back to the enduro's. Gene and I went to many events together all over the east coast. Lot's of funny stories to tell about them!!! He was always a gentleman and a first class rider and competitor. He will always be a part of me and my great memories.

I first met Gene back in 1967. I had purchased my first Harley (a beat-up '54 FLH) and was doing all the work myself and he helped with info on my progress...until it went on fire...that's another tale. I reunited with him in the early 70's when H-D was my regular duty vehicle with the SCPD and the dealership on Rt. 109 was a frequent place to visit. AMF made it a little more difficult for the staff at the dealership in the 70's and Gene was up to the task of keeping things going with his good humor. I didn't have a chance to see him recently so I can only remember the best parts. I am sorry to see him go and I hope that his family can take some small comfort in the fact that he was well respected by so many that knew him.

Gene Baron . . . One of a kind . . . A true gentleman, and an extremely interesting member of the "H/D family".
Like many of you, I sat and spoke with Gene numerous times while in the dealership. He shared with me his love of racing and his deep sense of loss for his wife. It touched me then, and it touches me to this very day.
I can still see him, in my mind's eye, standing next to his racing picture behind his desk. Thin. A little frail maybe. But with steel in his backbone and a ready smile. His mind was sharp and his manner gentle. Never too busy to welcome you and always ready to help.
Yep, one of a kind.
And he is sorely missed . . .
God Bless, Gene. Rest in peace with your beloved.

Mr. Baron said hello to my wife one day in Oct. '92. You see I was with her to try to talk her into a Harley. My wife Gene said to him how do you spell your name, Mr. Baron said "G-E-N-E" and five minutes later I signed for a Ultra Classic. From then on Mr. B and I spent hours talking bikes and life. God bless Gene Baron, I ride with his spirit evertime I put the kickstand up.

I met Gene Baron back in 1994 when my late husband purchased his first bike. Always such a pleasant person with a smile on his face. Then I got to really know Gene when I became involved with the Long Island Harley Owners Group. By the way, it was Gene who first allowed this club to get started back in 1985. He must have had good insight as LIHOG is still around with many members that love to ride and have fun.
Whenever I would go into Suffolk H-D, Gene would always have time to sit and talk with me. The best was when the old photos would come out. You could see the pride of those happy memories in his face. I loved to hear his stories of years gone by. What an interesting life he had and he just loved to share it with those he met along the way.
"Thank you Gene for your friendship".
It was an honor to be able to ride behind Gene on his final journey. He was a great man and is dearly missed by all who knew him.

There are no words to describe the feeling of losing that "Someone Special" that for some reason God brings into a persons life. I never quite understood why Gene and I were brought together....but now I think I do. He taught me so many things..but most of all the most important lesson was "Always do the proper thing for people". That has become very evident since your passing as I speak to people whose life you passed thru and left them with the good feeling of having spent time with you and sharing a piece of "CANDY" from your drawer. I miss you my friend.......Thank you for all you taught me in our short time together, I will always try to " The proper thing" for people.

We all have Mr. "B" stories that we will forever treasure. What a kind and gentle soul he was, even though I would knock on his front door and he would open the door and say, "Hello Dear." Then without missing a beat he would turnaround to his best friend and caretaker Joey Q and say, "Kid...the fat girl is here." LOL. I knew Mr. B for the past 6 years and enjoyed the stories he would tell me of how his wife use to ride too and he would share all his photos of her and his racing days. The man was unbelievable and will never be forgotten. I am very honored to have known him and I thank him for his encouragement when I wanted to buy my first Harley. Lots of Love Mr. B!!!!

GENE, OR AS I CALLED HIM "POP" WAS JUST LIKE A FATHER TO ME. I WORKED FOR HIM AT HARLEY THEN IN THE LAST FEW YEARS IT WAS MY PLEASURE TO TAKE CARE OF HIM LIKE A SON WITH HIS DAD. WE WORKED ON HIS OLD BIKES EVERY DAY. I DON'T THINK HE KNEW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM BUT EITHER DID I. LOL...WE HAD A LOT OF FUN! THE BEST TIME IS WHEN WE WENT TO EAT. BOY DID I LIKE THAT PART OF TAKING CARE OF HIM (THE FOOD I MEAN). WE FED EACH OTHER, HE PUT ON A FEW POUNDS AND I PUT ON THE REST. WE WATCHED MOVIES TOGETHER, WE TOOK TIME OUT (THAT WAS THE BEST SLEEPING ON THE JOB). THEN UP AGAIN AND BACK IN THE GARAGE. I COULD GO ON AND ON WITH THE STORIES BUT I ONLY TYPE WITH ONE FINGER. I THINK OF "POP" MR. "B" EVERY DAY BY LOOKING AT HIS PICTURE ON MY FRIG AND LOOKING AT ALL THE GIFTS HE GAVE ME. TOO BAD THE CLOTHES DON'T FIT. LOL...BUT I LOVED HIM MORE THEN MY OWN FATHER. NOT THAT I DID NOT LOVE HIM BUT WE WERE CLOSE. WELL, ALL I CAN SAY IS, "POP, ONE DAY WE WILL RIDE TOGETHER IN THE SKIES."
YOUR OTHER SON
GOD BLESS YOU

"Mr. Baron" - His preference, simply "Gene!" You rode with my Dad in the 50's, and I remember you sharing stories to customers about me when I was in diapers, Gene, me and thousands of people will surely miss you! "You" were without a doubt the Quintessential Icon of Harley-Davidson and you alone have closed an "Era in Harley-Davidson history, especially for antique bikes and HD racing heritage. I bought my first Harley from you in 66 and still remember you not allowing me to take it home until "Indian Jim" approved my riding capeabilities & safely; I was a little angry, but thank you. Rest in Peace Gene, your friend "Stache"
Thanks also to all the bike who rode and contributed to a sad tribute/honor to Gene. Additional thanks for outstanding help of Suffolk County Police to honor Gene!

I met Gene on May 15th 1960. I rode into his new 24' x 24' shop at 666A Sunrise Hwy. West Babylon L.I. on my 1955 KH.
I asked him to check my gearing and he did and then said 2 dollars please. A new 1960 XLCH stood there looking lonely and I asked him to give me $450 for my bike so I could buy the CH. OK deal he said. I dragged my Mom in there to co-sign and was the proud owner of the baddest motorcycle in our area. It was the third bike Gene sold. This started a 48 year friendship like no other. Little by little I started working on various things and ended up working for Gene for 10 years, on and off, while always working elsewhere. I raced 13 years out of his shop as a kid and then we raced Boardtrackers at Davenport. Gene won his last race at 79 and got a 15 minute standing ovation. I will sorely miss talking about races he rode, races I rode, and generally trying to cure the world's ailments. Gene was gracious, generous to a fault, extremely humorous and truly the gentlest of men I ever knew. I will always Love Eugene Emanual Baron.
A young boy that hung around the old shop dreaming like the rest of us once asked Gene how his arms got so big. Gene coyly looked up and said..."from picking up ladies dresses kid."
