I think of Bob often. I have a "Monkey Fist" that he gave me on my key chain.
We had a lot of laughs on the USS JP Kennedy and he taught me all of his "Knot Tying Tricks" that I tried out on the IC Switchboard in order to dress it up. May he rest in peace as part of the Greatest Generation. My condolences to the entire Greening Family he was a great person and an American that answered the call to arms. He is forever "On Patrol".

Dear Greening family,
I like many here knew Bob Greening for years as I volunteered aboard USS J.P. Kennedy Jr. DD850. However, as one who started when I was around 11, Bob Greening had a impact on my later love for the Navy and ships through his sea stories, dedication, and friendship. Many of our successes and ideas of teamwork aboard ship are represented by Bob and who he was. He was a good friend, shipmate, and mentor to many. On behalf of the my father, brother, and myself who knew him, we pass along our deepest condolences.

Dear Greening Family; I too only knew Bob for about eight years. He was an inspiration to all of us volunteers on the Kennedy. I am glad I got the opportunity to get to know him. He truly was an honorable and proud member of the "Greatest Generation". He will be sorely missed. Thank you all for sharing him with us.

To Doris and the entire Greening Family, I offer you my condolences. Bob had the sort of attitude that's required if you're going to be called a " shipmate ". We shared some good times at the Balch-Porterfield reunions, except the times when Bob would have the best series in bowling. I believe there are countless
" monkey fist's " being shaken toward the sky today and Bob's responsible for everyone of them.

Dear Greening Family,
We are saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I feel a special connection with Bob because both he and my father were USS Massachusetts Plank Owners. Although they didn't know each other they served together aboard the same ship, in combat, during WW11. I don't think Bob even realized how many people he influenced in his lifetime. With his volunteer Navy service, his volunteer firefighting service and volunteer work at BC he touched the lives of many and will be missed by all. I think of him every time I see the monkey fist on my key chain.
Much love to the Greening family,
Chuck and Bonnie Parker

Teacher, friend, shipmate. Bob was this and so much more for the many years I volunteered with him at Battleship Cove. One of the most respected men I ever had the privilege of knowing. He won't be forgotten.

Bob was a true American hero and a great shipmate. We shared stories of our families and we had a lot of laughs. He was in his element when he was aboard the USS Kennedy and I will surely miss his smiling face, laughter and firm handshake. May he be at peace.
