Mary Rodd Obituary


RODD - Mary, (nee Alonso) May 9, 1927 - July 15, 2008 of Siena Village, Smithtown formerly of Commack and Kings Park. Born in Sada, La Coruna, Galicia, Spain. She immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island with her mother Josefa Pita and her sister, Josephine. Her father, Jose Domingo, who worked for Consolidated Edison, was awaiting their arrival in New York. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Manuel and loving son, Richard, her sister Josephine and brother Emilio. She is survived by her dear children, Robert, Ronald and Randi Maria. She leaves behind seven adoring grandchildren, Cristina, Michael, Ryan, Scott, Richie, Mary, Dorothy, and her sister-in-law Charlene, her niece Betty and many other nieces and nephews. She was raised in Manhattan and later moved to the Bronx. Shortly after graduating from James Monroe High School, she worked in Wall Street until her marriage to Manuel in 1951. She took time out to raise her four children before returning to work. She was remembered as the "Churro Lady" in the late 1970's in the Commack School District Saw Mill School's Foreign Food Festivals, a long time employee of Pilgrim Psychiatric Center working in Personnel, Medical Records and the Business Office departments. A devoted member of St. Joseph's Church, Kings Park, Catholic Daughters, Rosary Society, and the Small Christian Community. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and laughter. She brightened any room she entered. She was loved. May the Peace of the Lord be with her. Reposing at Clayton Funeral Home, Inc. 25 Meadow Rd. (corner Indian Head Rd.) Kings Park until Tuesday when a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 9:30am at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Kings Park. Interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Visiting hours Monday 2-5 and 7-9pm.

Dear Randi and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your mother seems to have been an extraordinary woman. I am sure you will cherish all the memories of her and she will remain in your heart always.
