Joan Henkel Obituary

HENKEL - Joan (Oakes), of Mystic, CT, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, June 30, 2008. Born in New York City, on December 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Morris and Helen (Buckman) Oakes. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henkel III, who passed away in 1975, and by her daughter, Alexandria Nicosia who passed away in 1972. Joan was also recently preceded in death by her brother, Rodman Oakes. Joan had been a resident of Long Island for most of her life, moving to Mystic last year to be closer to her beloved nieces and nephews. She will be remembered most for her enthusiastic laughter. Joan was a devoted and caring family member; a person of great intelligence and integrity; and a dear friend for many who knew her. A memorial service was held on July 8th at Stoneridge in Mystic. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
