Lois Phillips Obituary

PHILLIPS - Lois, died July 30th after a battle with an illness which she fought with good cheer and unflagging determination until her death. She was 68. Mrs. Phillips was a lawyer's lawyer, well-known and much sought after for her knowledge of real estate law, and stood out among her peers because of her direct, no-nonsense approach to problems, a trait she acquired in earlier years as an elementary- school teacher at St. Mary's Elementary School in Manhasset. She began and spent much of her legal career at Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood and after a stint as Assistant Bureau Chief in the Real Estate Finance Division of the Attorney General's office, joined Chehebar Deveney & Phillips as a partner. Mrs. Phillips was, as she proudly proclaimed, a Queens girl, and spent the last nine years living near Riverhead where she was active in local politics. She is survived by her husband, Robert, her two daughters, Alice and Regina, both lawyers, and her son, Robert, and by her grand- children, Reid and Quinn, on whom she doted. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, August 3rd, at the Alexander-Tuthill Funeral Home, 6447 Route 25A in Wading River, from 2 to 4pm and from 7 to 9pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, 1488 North Country Road in Wading River, at 10am on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation, www.dsrtf.org. Lois was a special, loving person and will be deeply missed.

Dear Robert, Alice, Regina and Rob,

We were very saddened by Lois's passing. She brought happiness, comfort and joy to her family and those around her. This was what we will remember most about her. Lois was also very proud mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She will be missed. All our love.

TO ALL THE PHILLIPS FAMILY, I WAS A CNR 61 GAL. JUST ENJOYED LOIS'S FRIENDSHIP SO MUCH. LOIS WAS ALWAYS SO ENJOYABLE TO BE WITH. HER PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS WAS ALWAYS MINOR COMPARED TO HER WONDERFUL FAMILY, OF WHICH SHE WAS SO PROUD. MY SYMPATHY AND LOVE, I AM SO SORRY.
