Richard Cohen Obituary

COHEN - Richard L., passed away peacefully on Friday August 29th. He was born on April 10, 1931 in Lawrence, N.Y. He attended Rutgers Prep School and thereafter St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. Richard then proudly served his Country as a Major in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve, and spent 20 years in the Air National Guard. He was a successful real estate broker, developer, and builder: both nationally and internationally. Richard will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman with a "larger than life personality", and a phenomenal sense of humor. Those closest to him will also remembe him for his quiet benevolent nature. Richard will be forever missed by his life partner Inge Kowal: his children, Donna Cohen, Jill Cohen Kornman, Stephen Cohen, Cristina Cohen; and his two grandchildren Kaya and Jason Cohen, and their mother Karen Fisher and his sister Barbara Cohen. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday September 4, 2008 from 4pm to 6pm at "Guttermans", 8000 Jericho Tpke. Woodbury, L.I. donations can be made to the Richard L. Cohen Fmaily Foundation, which contributes to local schlorships, cancer research, and various other local charities.

Everytime I think of Richard and all the good times and many laughs, they bring a smile to my face.

Time goes by so quickly but to all who loved him, keep smiling and keep the memory alive.

We are devastated by the loss of our dear friend Richard. His love of life, the outdoors, and travel was an inspiration to us. He taught us to get off the beaten path when traveling to discover the most beautiful places. Our lives are richer for having known Richard. We shared many laughs and many fun times with him and Inge. He will remain in our thoughts and memories forever. We will forever hear his voice while fishing, saying, "Jesus, Lou, are your feet glued to the deck?" :) Lou and Cheryl Lampitelli

I was so saddened to hear the news today of Mr. Cohen. Although it's been several years since I've seen him I can still see his face and hear his voice (and his laugh!) vividly. Growing up on the same street with Cristina and Stephen I have many fond and funny memories of him. He was such a character ~ certainly someone you never forget. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family in your time of grief. My deepest condolences.

Richard was my boss and over the many years became much more. His personality, humor and zest for life cannot be replaced.

To his family and his loved ones,(whom I love dearly) I am truly sorry for your loss.

I worked with Richard and his dad, David, along with the Rothenbergs over 20 years ago in Garden City (before they moved to Rte 110). Even when Richard was in PA or Breckenridge, I ran Richard's office for a couple years and got to know his wife (Doris), dad, sister in Bay Shore and daughter, Donna, by phone. I knew of his 2 younger kids going to Tempee and the other, another school.

If I can, I will stop by on Thursday though at a new job till 6pm, it will be difficult to get time off.

I extend my sympathies to the above-mentioned and I hope Richard is at peace alongside his beloved parents. He was always an adventure.
