Dear Gary, Sherri, Julie and Jason,
This is Lissa Podrid Gross and Ellen Davis Weisman. We are childhood friends of your devoted wife and mom Joyce. We lived within 1/2 block of each other in Brooklyn, and were literally the "three musketeers". We used Joyce's stoop in front of her house as our meeting place, and every day we would come together to discuss our teachers, homework, parents, and of course boys. We played with our Spaulding ball almost incessantly. We played stoop ball, box ball, hit the penny, monkey in the middle, and occasionally would change it up with a jump rope or Barbie doll. The only things we needed to entertain ourselves were a rubber ball and each other. Those were wonderful times and the three of us created great memories that have lasted a lifetime.
We knew Mildred, Jack, Paula and even Aunt Rozzie. We were more like family than friends.
As we got older and started to seriously date our future husbands, we unfortunately drifted apart. Over the years we tried to contact Joyce, but our attempts were unsuccessful. We often thought it would be fun to reunite...just the three of us. A few days ago we tried to "google" her again, and very sadly found her death notice in the NY Times. It was quite a shock.
We want to express our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy. Even though we have not had contact with your wife and mom in 35 years, we feel Joyce's loss in our hearts. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
Sincerely,
Lissa Podrid Gross

Gary, Sherri, Julie and Jason,
I am so sorry for your lose. It is not easy losing a parent this I know first hand. My dad passed away at a young age when I was 19 of similar circumstances. Joyce was a special person. I was very fond of her she touched so many lives and will be greatly missed. Marcie held a special place in heart and will keep her memory alive always. Don't hesitate to call us if you need anything.
Love,
Craig & Marcie

I am still in shock over the news. Joyce was one of the kindest and sweetest persons I've ever had the pleasure to know. She will be greatly missed. I send my deepest sympathy to Gary, Sherri, Julie, and Jason.
