When I know the name of a bird or tree or flower, I think of you.
When the day is crisp and windy, a perfect day for sailing, I think of you.
When I sit with family and laugh, I think of you and know you are there with us, enjoying that we are all together.
Thanks for teaching me to love the smell of the tides and the change of the seasons, the details of nature and the goodness in people.
Thanks Dad.

It was my joy to be with you at the Mass of Transferal. Our dear Herman will be missed and ever in our daily prayers. He was my second director and I learned much from him. A gentle, but firm in giving his best to us and the Church, he was truely a gentle giant.
When I was asked to be director of deacons in 2001, my first encounter with him was a the wake of his dear wife(Pat). He took me aside and spent time in prayer with me, right there in the funeral home. He was and always will be gift to us. May you have the peace of Christ during these days of his passing, and know you all are kept in prayer too. Thank you for sharing your dear father with us.

I remember Mr. Determann as a student in Sousa. What a presence he was ! Tall man with a voice to match. When you first met him he was a little intimidating, but looking back 35 years I can say he was tough, but fair and a Good man.

He will be remembered.

Dear Family,
I met Herm in 1968 as a first year teacher at Sousa. What a kind and loving man he was. We could go to Herm with any problem and he'd be there in a moment with sage advice and a laugh. You never felt like you were being judged. What a privilege it was to know him.
