Elizabeth De Rosa Obituary

De ROSA - Elizabeth (Mrs. D), of Mrs. D's School of Riding has died. Elizabeth Susanna De Rosa, wife of Peter De Rosa, died on Sunday, September 28, after a three year battle with an illness. She died surrounded by family. She was 79. She married her husband in 1947 after he finished his service in the Marine Corps and they were together until her passing. De Rosa was born in Queens and moved to Rocky Point and in the late 1950s moved to Huntington, NY, where she raised her six children, Peter, Diana, Vincent, David, Donna (all De Rosa) and Susan (now Saccardi). During that time she was loved by many and from 1971 until the early 1980s she ran Mrs. D's School of Riding. From that time on many knew her as Mrs. D. In 1980 Newsday used the horse stable as a back drop for an advertising campaign. Betty, as she was called by many of her friends, was known for her devotion to her family and her unwavering support to so many. She always had a kind word and a smile and everyone who knew her grew to admire her warm spirit and loving heart. She was known for her passion for gardening and her love of golf. She was diagnosed with an illness in 2005 and fought valiantly to survive but after three years lost the battle. She is survived by not only her six children but 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will take place Tuesday, September 30 at A. L. Jacobsen Funeral Home, 1380 New York Ave., Huntington Station from 2-5 and from 7-9pm. A Mass will take place at St. Elizabeth's at 10:30am on Wednesday, October 1.

To my cousins and Uncle Pete:

Very sorry to hear about Aunt Betty's passing. It has been a long time since I've had the pleasure of seeing and talking to her but I remember her as a loving and kind woman. As a child I always looked forward to seeing her, aunt June and Aunt Ann when we used to get together at Christmastime. Love and sympathy to all.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of my Aunt Betty who I have known for over 60 years but who was revealed to me again in our "later years". I have no greater compliment than to say she was like my mother and reminded me of my mother.
My sympathy goes to Uncle Pete who was a great partner to a great woman. My sympathy also to my cousins who were reintroduced to me by Aunt Betty at our last family reunion. They loved her dearly but will have great memories to support them.

My genuine sympathy goes out to the entire family. I started riding at Mrs. D's when I was 8 years old and have the best of memories from that time. It was a welcoming atmosphere created by Mrs. D. I am so grateful for those memories and I am still riding today at the age of 42 and loving it. God Bless Mrs. D and her family.

My heartfelt sympathies to the entire DeRosa family. I have such warm memories of your mom.

I started riding at Mrs. D's when I was in third grade. Looking back as an adult, I remember how we were not treated as clients, but as family. She created such a wonderful atmosphere to learn and grow. I hope she would be proud to know, that 30 years later I'm still riding.
