McGOWAN - John J., on October 19, of Garden City and formerly of North Valley Stream. Beloved husband of the late Helen. Loving father of Neil (Janice) and the late Denise. Devoted and loving grandfather of Shaun (Lindsay), Lauren, Glenn, Brian and Kevin. Cherished brother to William (Terry). Retired Deputy Chief of Detectives Nassau County Police Department and proud Navy Veteran of WWII. Visiting at the Fairchild Sons Funeral Chapel, Franklin Ave. and 12th Street, Garden City on Tuesday 7-9pm and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian burial on Thursday 10am at St. Joseph's Church, Garden City. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd. Suite 300, Frisco, Texas 75034.

I was sad to hear about the passing of Jack. He was a wonderful kind man. I enjoyed listening to his stories when we were at Colgate.
