Mr. Hall was a wonderful, engaging teacher whom I fondly remember years after the fact. He had a sly sense of humor (ask me sometime to tell you the story of "Mogiba.") He occasionally would give you a look that clearly read, "I don't believe you actually said that!" without making a sensitive 17-year-old feel like an idiot. Now, THAT was a gift! The lessons we learned both in and out of his classroom still resonate today, some 40 years later. Do they still make 'em like him anymore. Not many. We were so lucky.

I have known the Halls since Adrienne & I were in High School together. I remember Russell's great sense of humor & wit. Whenever I would come over, he always had something funny to say. I had finally met someone as sarcastic as I was. He was a great Dad to Adrienne He & Carol always treated me like I was part of the family. When I came out for Adrienne's baby shower, Russell cooked dinner for me. I told him that he was a very good wife & he agreed! He was a very dedicated Husband, Father & Grandfather. I will miss him very much. I take comfort in the fact that Carol & Adrienne have their family & each other during this sad time.

I had Mr. Hall as a teacher at Calhoun and Igraduated in 1967. I went on to become a social studies teacher in very great part because of him. He awakened a delight in the study of history with his knowledge and humor. In 1971 I became a teacher in Bellmore-Merrick also and was able to be a colleague of his. I will always remember him fondly..

I have been a teacher in New York City for over 30 years. I graduated from Sanford H. Calhoun High School in June 1967; that class honored Mr. Hall with his own special yearbook section and dedication. Russell Hall was my model and mentor as an educator, no matter who my students were. He was an educator who taught not only with dedication but joy and a deep respect for his students' capabilities. I will never forget Mr. Hall, my History teacher. My sincere and deeply felt condolences to Russell Hall's family; we have all been fortunate to have shared some part of our lives with him.

It is with deep sorrow that I learn about the passing of Russ. I had the good fortune of working with him for many years at JF Kennedy HS. He was a fine teacher and a great colleague, always ready to help both student and staff. My sympathies to his family and all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
