Jack was always fun to be around.. jokes, stories, pranks... all in fun and everyone loved them. He'll be missed by everyone who knew him. Much of the fun at the county golf tournament was listening to Jack tell his stories, always with that gleam in his eyes. My favorite prank of his when he had the lovely golf coach from Plainview organize the "annual parade" through the Bethpage parking lot. Of course, there was no such thing as a parade.. he,he,he...
One of a kind!

I just found out about the passing of Mac. He was one in a million. As a fellow golf coach he gave me the greatest gift you could share, the gift of laughter. His stories about the pranks he pulled off were never ending. I could hardly play golf for the laughter. I still show my students the "between the legs" putting stance. My condolences to his family. He will truly be missed.

Just read through some of the entries..... I share the feelings. The right or left shoelace stuff, coming for the rubber chicken in Pizzolo's class,Wrigley's and Loonie Tunes! He always had our back! Terrific Man and my favorite year in football was the half season that I played for Coach McCarthy and Ryan. They don't make 'em like that anymore. He will be missed!

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news about Mac. There are so many great Mac memories. My favorite was the sign on the ceiling of the wrestling room: "If you can read this, you're being pinned."

Thank you all for your wonderful remembrances of Jack. He loved people and they loved him back. It was his joy and privilege to teach--I feel that I know all of you--he had so many stories he told me. He was a most wonderful father and a tender, loving, and very SILLY grandfather. His grandchildren adored him as did his sons and me, his loving wife.

Yayo Jack was my grandpa. It was so hard to take it as it happened. I couldn't believe it when my dad told me and my sister says that he is an angel.

On behalf of all our family, I want to thank you all for your memories and heart-felt notes. All of you make it just a little easier... It is truly an honor to know that my father was able to touch so many lives and leave so many great memories for so many. He was also the best husband/father/grandfather anyone could ask for and we will miss him dearly.

Mac,
You were a CSH legend, a mentor, a coach and a fine man! Whether it was the 7th/8th grade football team, the "chicken" the "ruddy-kazoo" or the multitude of jokes and ways you made gym class fun or sports after school better, you will be missed. The kids in heaven will not get to practice the Jimmy “super-fly snooka” move now under your guidance….. We will miss your inspiration, you humor and your ability to always laugh!

My favorite memories of CSH always included Mac. He was a one of a kind teacher, coach, and friend. I know that all of us that were lucky enough to have spent time with him on the playing fields, in the gym, or listening to one of his famous stories are a better person because of him.

Coach Mac will certainly be missed. I will never forget the Carle Place (Frogs) game. The man in motion hopped, the QB croaked the signals and then he switched the linemen with the backs. Some of the best times at CSH.

Only fond memories and always a smile from coach Mac. You should be playing football not soccer was his favorite line. Great teacher and a better person. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

Coach Mac always greeted you with a smile! On the field or in the halls, Mac always had something nice to say...usually something that made you laugh!! Perhaps the greatest softball pitcher in history! All the best to the McCarthy family. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

To this day I did not realize (until just Googled) that they were NOT the Wheatley Wombats! I have etched in my mind a man in a blue wind breaker, inviting smile, embelishing some outrageous story to some unsuspecting junior high boys who cannot take their eyes off him - and them loving him for it. I know I did and do. Thank you for everything...

Mr. Mac was a great teacher and a wonderful person. Each time I play golf I have fond memories of coach Mac as he taught me how to hit out of the sand. Unfortunately he was a better teacher than I was a student. We are all better off for knowing Mr. Mac he will be missed.

I was lucky enough to have Mr. Mac touch my life as my teacher at West Side. You couldn't leave PE class without a smile. I was also able to teach and coach with him at CSH. I learned from him both as a student and a colleague. A great person and a great teacher, thanks for the memories.
