Who was George?
He was the Athlete in high school who competed in the 440 yard dash, and when questioned about all the strings in his scrapbook, he responded that's the finish line and you grab it when you get there....
He was the Carpenter who apprenticed for 3 years to become a tradesman....
He was the Soldier who answered the call and served his Country in the Korean War, achieving a rate of Master Sargeant and was awarded 2 Bronze Stars....
He was the Mechanic who went to work at Grumman Aircraft in 1949, for 37 years, building the planes for our serviceman to use to defend our Country....
He was the Husband to Edna, a marriage that started on May 22nd 1954 and ended 40 years later, when her death pulled them apart....
He was the Father to George and Kathy, who provided an environment of wildlife in their own backyard, including chickens, pheasants, dogs, rabbits, chipmunks and squirrels that any kid would love....
He was the Sportsman, whose supreme passion was Iceboating on Lake Ronkonkoma, every year for 40 years.....
He was the Friend...
of Emma Bruno, his beloved companion;
of his brothers Mike and John;
of his sisters-in-law Polly and Grace;
of his nieces and nephews;
of his neighbors, after all who house hasn't seen his hammer and saw?
of the Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society, quietly supporting the ressurection of the Homestead....
He was the Master Mason, quietly practicing his craft.....
He was the Jack of all trades, and he mastered them all!
Godspeed Dad...You were loved by all.

I also grew up living next door to "Uncle" George. He and his wife "Aunt" Edna were always there for us and made us feel welcome any time we wanted to come over. There was a simple gate door connecting our backyards which I used often. It was a wonderful feeling knowing that our neighbors and their children, Kathy and Georgie, were like family to us. I pray that "Uncle" George has a place in Heaven and is resting in peace. My condolences go out to his children, family, and friends who cared for him deeply. I, too, was honored at his presence at my wedding along with his dear companion. I will always have fond memories of my childhood which includes my beloved neighbors.

I grew up living next-door to Uncle George and Aunt Edna and looked up to them like a second set of parents. Georgey and Cathy were like a big brother and sister. Uncle George was one of the most kindest, gentlest, and most giving of himself men I';ve ever known. Uncle George and my father were VERY GOOD friends for many years, helped each other in times of need, along with many building/fixing projects between our two properties. They drank a ton of Ballentine ale together, made their own hootch and nightly fires over each others backyard. Uncle George came to my wedding and I was honored. I loved him greatly.
