My late mother, Billie-Jean Knettel, was a friend and colleague of Bea's at Lindner Place / Downing for many years. I came to know almost all of the faculty well -- not just those I had for class -- due to the countless hours I spent at school, both before and after the school day, with my mom...and Mrs. Wilson was one of my favorites.
After the children's last day of school in June, the teachers would spend a few days packing up their classrooms for the summer. Even though 1971 was my last year as a student there, every June (until the mid-'80s when my mom retired) I'd return to help her pack up her room. As the years rolled by she'd ask me, "Are you sure you want to come & give me a hand?" and I'd say, "Heck yes -- I want to say hi to Mrs. Wilson...and Mrs. Stopfer, and Mrs. Rosenberg, and Mrs. Dreyfuss, and Miss Sammo, and Perriman, and..."
When I went to Bea's room she'd often have her back turned to the door, busy packing. I'd stand in the doorway, smiling and waiting, not saying anything. Eventually she'd look up and see me, and call out, "Ricky!" and come over and take my face in her hands, and give me a big kiss, and an even bigger hug. And though we tried to talk about many things, somehow the conversation always ended up centering around just two things: school, and Dr. J.!
Bea not only touched, but also helped form, so many children's lives -- so many! -- over the years. I know this is a sad time now, and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you, and with Bea. I hope that thinking of her -- and knowing how special she was to all those people -- gives you comfort, now and always. And makes you smile.
Sincerely,
Kevin & Gloria Brown with children and Grandmother Brown

May God Bless this family and their friends during this time of bereavement. Mrs. Wilson was a wonderful teacher and I am successful in life because of her dedication to the kids at Linder Place Elementary School. She and Mrs. Dowell were two of my favorite teachers of all time!
