I felt so bad that the day after you died, dear Bernie, my husband and I were headed for Florida --plans that had been made many months previously. I didn't get to say goodbye in person and that bothered me a lot because for many years your faith has been such an inspiration to me and to everyone else at Our Lady of Consolation. I wish I could have been there for the drive-by. Just hearing the others tell about it brought tears to my eyes -- what a wonderful tribute for the beautiful person you are. Your legacy of steadfast strength in the face of adversity will continue to inspire all of us for many years to come. Rest in peace, Dear Bernie, and please continue to pray for us all. May the angels lead you into paradise and welcome you home.

To all of Bernie's family,
I just want you to know how much I loved your Dad/grandfather!! When I first came to volunteer at Consolation he was the first to welcome me and I saw immediately what a tremedous and beautiful faith he had. He was insightful, so very kind, loving, compassionate and a very Holy man. I learned so much from him and I cherish each memory I made with him...especially at The Sons and Daughter's of Mary Rosary group! I have offered many Rosaries on his behalf and asked Our Blessed Mother Herself to take his hand to join your mom and sweet Jesus...I truly feel Bernie had the qualities of a Saint and I would be the first to speak on his behalf if he came up for beatification!!!
To My Bernie...Don't forget me and keep praying for us all....lead us on the right back which leads us to Him!! Thank Mary for me and if you see my grandmother, Catherine...give her a kiss!

I did not know Bernie personally, but I do know some of his family and I believe a person's true nature is known by their fruit. Based on the fruit of Bernie's life, it is obvious He was a good man with a good heart. I hope his family will find comfort in knowing Bernie is fully at peace with God , and that we can all find comfort by "living even more intensely for him, by practicing (love and compassion) for him, in order to give his life and death a deeper meaning" I wish the family and loved ones deep peace from a trust in God.

My dearest Bernie,
Thank you for being such a great influence and inspiration on my life. Your presence with us at "The Sons and Daughters of Mary" prayer group at Consolation will be sorely missed. You were such an integral part of the Rosary and I loved praying with you. I also especially loved hearing you so beautifully sing "Our Lady of Knock". Certainly all your cares and troubles have ceased. You were very loved and you touched more lives than you realize. I am proud to call you my friend and I will never forget you. I know you are now with your lovely Betty and with my sweet Mother Mo Chroi, Josie. I can only imagine the wonderful Caed Mile Failte you received as your lovely soul soared to Heaven. Say one for me.
Always in our hearts,
Maura and Frank Homan
