Tom Snyder was just the perfect show to be on after Carson. He provided a favorable contrast to the fast-paced, audience driven, star-studded, glitzy, showbiz glamour of the Tonight Show with his quiet, introspective one-on-ones with just guests - no audience. Tom provided us with the sedative we needed before our night's sleep. His personality was perfect: focused, sure, & never bombastic, he always got the best from his guests, who always seemed to enjoy being interviewed by him. Thank you Tom. No one in the Late Late spot has ever been as good, & it's a shame it couldn't have gone on forever. If it had, I'd still be watching. Godspeed, Mr Snyder.

Tom was a great guy... It was my honor to know him & call him a friend when he had his show on CNBC in the early '90's 7PM PST Monday-Friday. Called in several times, we and his group had dinner at the Smokehouse across the street from the studio in Burbank a time or two... Hung out with Tom & the crew when theywere up in Seattle doing the show from the Boeing Museum of Flight. Good times!!! Miss him and the gang!!!

I will never forget Tom's gregarious voice and sparkling smile and fun personality. I had the pleasure of being in the audience at our Chicago's Broadcast Museum several years ago.
What a blast of an evening with Tom. Irv Kupcinet and so many other broadcasters. With my camera in hand I took a fabulous picture of TS at the mike. I sent it to him in Ca. and returned the second copy with a lovely note. I still have it framed and sitting on my home office desk.
No one else could even come close to his dynamite broadcast personality.

I thought of Tom this morning. Just popped into my head. Don't remember hearing of your passing. I remember as a child at the Aneheim Hyatt House hotel, across the street from Disneyland, watching you LIVE interviewing people including my dad, the manager of the hotel. I made my television debut then as well, geeky little fat kid waiving his arms in the background. You are great!!! Rest Well...

I lived alone in the north woods in the mid 1970s with a 12" black & white tv and every night I'd watch Tom Snyder chain smoking and talking to guests about crazy stuff like alien abductions. He was great! Best late night show ever.

Just finished watching a tape of you interviewing me in 1980. Haven't looked at it in a long time, but when I heard that you passed away, I was saddened and remembered the interview was the best I've ever had. I have been interviewed over 500 times by all media as a result of my story, "The Other Side of Hell" appearing as NBC's BIG EVENT in 1980. It's been a long time, but you are definitely missed my friend. Bill Thomas 11/27/2012

For Tom...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Hard to believe a year has passed, and this is the first I checked to see the entries here...still missed...still loved. Tom had a mascot on the show, a teddy bear...and so I foolishly made a tie, and embroidered a teddy bear on it, thinking good ol Tom would wear it. Luckilly he had more sense than that...it was the classiest of looks...but he did put it around the bears neck...and as they went to a commercial one night, I awoke everyone in the house to "come see" it...Remember the shows from Hawaii, the overnighter on the 4th of July...the laughs, the smiles. Most of all the comfort, and the opening chats, where Tom shared his sufferings of the activities of daily living, from house problems to traffic, to trying to get plastic wrap out of the box. I remember how he loved the individual jars of condiments from room service, and was gifted with a basketful, and how he was the only one I knew who totally agreed that Coke tastes best in GLASS bottles. I've missed you since you went off the air...and will always.
My friend Shirley, who was like a mom to me, passed away a couple weeks ago...if you bump into her, you'd have some nice chats...and she loves dogs too. Miss you...

Tom Snyder was my political teacher when I was in college as I watched his late night shows. I too, will permanently have his gruff laugh imprinted in my ears. To the family of Tom, my condolences in the loss of your loved one. For me, Tom was an enjoyable source of relaxation during the late night. I am a 911 dispatcher and got to know Tom in the late 90's when he had his late night talk show on CBS after Letterman. I loved his laugh and his knowledge of issues and topics. He was part of the crew at night, if you will. My co-workers knew that the TV stayed on CBS until after Tom was on. His guests and his relationship to them, made me feel like I knew them. The relaxed atmosphere kept me tuning in. The night he signed off, I watched as his years and experiences flashed by and I said then, I wished I had gotten to know him sooner. The time we had together each night was too short.
Respectfully in prayer.

I send my deepest sympathy and condolences to Tom's entire family including his longtime girlfriend, who is most certainly family too. Sending prayers for peace and comfort for you all and a special thank you to Tom for making so many people, including me, happy over the years.

It is hard for me to envision a world without Tom Snyder. I of course met him as millions of others did...in the dead of night when we needed some warmth and he was warm and engaging and funny and stern and harsh and all the things that make up everyone.
Tom was a blessing in a harsh world and he cared about so many things and with so much vigor.
It nearly broke my heart when he retired but I did understand. It took my breath away when he left us.
So sit back fire up and remember our friend Tom.
Now Johnny has someone to laugh with.
I send my regards to Mother Snyder the daughter the grandkids and the companion...you all have my deepest sympathy. May God hold you close always.

I spent many a late night watching Tom on the "Tomorrow" show, and followed him when he moved to the "Late, Late Show." I loved his professionalism, his lust for life and his fantastic interviewing style. Mostly, I simply loved the man. My eyes keep moving to the wonderful photo of Tom on the Guest Book page. His broad smile will always be the way I will remember Tom.
My condolences are sent to his daughter, who always was uppermost in his heart; which he shared with all of his viewers and fans. To his life's companion, may your heart be healed and your pain lessen with thoughts of the love you and Tom had for one another, and the love we fans have for Tom. To Tom's brother, my deepest sympathy to you for the loss of your friend and brother. To all of Tom's friends and loved ones, bless you for being a part of the life of a wonderful man -- Tom Snyder.

How seldom does one come along that makes you feel as though there is nothing but the story, the interview or the plain truth. Few have I found who make me feel as important as a viewer as the story is to him.
I'll miss you telling it straight. How unfortunate it was that you were never cast as anchor of the evening news. You would have been perfect............
I wish you family well and hope their sorry will change into fond memories that we all have for you.

I guess one of the first things Tom did in heaven was to call for his dog, Oliver. I have fond memories watching Tom while up in the "middle of the night" feeding my baby (who is now 17).
