Alton Cutler Obituary

Alton W. Cutler 1924 - 2008 ADAMS Alton William Cutler, 83, of 17 Pleasant St. died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at North Adams Commons, surrounded by his family. Born in North Adams on Nov. 18, 1924, a son of Raymond and Margaret Norton Cutler, he attended schools in Stamford, Vt., and Drury High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Europe, participating in the Northern France, Rhineland, and Ardennes campaigns. He received many awards and medals, including the Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Cutler was last employed by the Excelsior Printing Co. in North Adams for 21 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Dr. George L. Curran Post #996 VFW; Frank R. Stiles Post #125 American Legion; and Greylock Community Club in North Adams, and the Adams Outdoorsmen for Youth. He enjoyed golf and fishing and spending time with his family. He was an avid Boston Red Sox baseball fan. His wife, the former Marjorie E. Burns, whom he married Feb. 7, 1948, died April 9, 2006. He leaves one son, Michael Cutler and his wife, Colleen, of Adams; three daughters, Kathy Lindgren of Pittsfield, Carol Cutler, and her partner, Diana Taft, of Adams and Paula Solomon of North Adams; six grandchildren, Michelle Cutler, James Cutler, Aimee Bullett, Meaghan Sage, Matthew Solomon, and Dennis Dickinson, and a great-grandson, Christopher Andrew Cutler. Three brothers are deceased, Raymond, Bruce, and Robert. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Alton Cutler will be Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at 7 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA-Hospice of North Berkshire or the Adams Outdoorsmen for Youth in care of the funeral home.
