Edward H. Goodman 1909 - 2008 WILLIAMSTOWN Edward Harold Goodman, 99, of 71 Sabin Drive died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Sweetbrook Health Care Center. He was a former longtime executive with the former Sprague Electric company in North Adams. Born in Malden on Aug. 2, 1909, a son of Morris M. Goodman and Annie Kalker Goodman, he was educated in Malden schools and graduated from Malden High School and from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Class of 1931. He began his working career as a civil engineer for the State of New York until he joined the Sprague Electric Company in 1933 in a lifelong industrial engineering career. During World War II, he served as a key member of the Sprague Management Team which converted the company to wartime production. Later, he set up high volume production facility to manufacture a vital component of the Proximity Bomb which helped turn the tide in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. Prior to his retirement in 1974, his responsibilities included planning and expansion of manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and establishing formal cost reduction and monitoring systems. Active in the Williamstown community, he was a longterm supporter of Pine Cobble School where he served as chairman of the new school Building Committee. He was a member of the Williamstown Outlay Committee and Zoning Board of Appeals. Additionally, he was an ardent supporter and board member of both Hospice and VNA for many years. He maintained multiple interests in music, camping, boating, skiing, gardening and tennis. Above all, he was a loving, generous and wise member of his family. His wife, Jane Tennant Goodman, died in 2005. He leaves his daughter, Deborah de Gil and his son-in-law J. Manuel Gil Lissen-Dominguez of Williamstown, and Seville, Spain, and his grandson Manuel Edward Gil-Goodman of Tampa, Fla. FUNERAL NOTICE: Burial services for Edward Harold Goodman will take place in the family plot at Westlawn Cemeter. There will be no calling hours, Omission of flowers.
