Wallace Lavariere Obituary

Wallace "Gus" Lavariere 1927 - 2008 NORTH ADAMS Wallace A. "Gus" Lavariere, 81, of Union Street Village East, formerly of South County Road, Drury, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on July 29, 1927, son of Remi and Alice Galipeau Lavariere, he was a graduate of Drury High School. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. Over the years, Mr. Lavariere worked for various construction companies in the area and retired from the maintenance department of the former Arnold Print Works in Adams. An avid outdoorsman, Gus enjoyed hunting and fishing. He leaves his wife of 58 years, the former Jacqueline "Jackie" A. Delisle, whom he married April 15, 1950 in Notre Dame Church. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Michael W. Lavariere and his wife, Maryanne, of Stamford, Vt., and Mark J. Lavariere and his wife, Rebekah, of Monroe; two daughters, Christine M. Harvey and her husband, James, of Clarksburg, and Laurie Gamari and her husband, James, of Adams; grandchildren, Nicole Vigna, Bryan, Jessica, Thomas and Daniel Gamari, and Jacob and Katelyn Lavariere, and a great-granddaughter, Asea Vigna. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will be in Clarksburg Cemetery. Prior to the Mass, a calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., North Adams. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
