Carla, I am so sorry. I didn't know Joel well personally (he was older when we were teens), but his photos were part of the life of every Berkshire County native. God bless you and your family as you deal with your loss.

I knew Mr. Joel Librizzi only by his photographs. To me he was. Trees, leaves, pumpkins, lakes, streams, apples, mountains, forests, woods, maple syrup and so much more that the Berkshires are so known for. He was a sure master of his art and craft! Enjoying his photographs made me want to take up that craft. His style, simplicity and composition. Sure has stayed in my head through my whole career. And remembering his excellent photographs has certainly influenced so many of mine. The world sure is graced by Joel Librizzi.

My deepest condolences go out to the Librizzi family.

Born and raised in Pittsfield, I grew up on Joel Librizzi photographs. Mr. Librizzi, my good friend Carol Levesque and I shared a moment in time when he snapped a photo of the two of us as young children. Carol and I were crossing the melting ice skating rink on the Berkshire Common as students attending Plunkett Elementary. The ground was quite messy with sloshy mud and ice and Carol did not have her boots on (she thought them babyish) so I carried her on my back. Mr. Librizzi came running up to us yelling for us to "Wait! Wait!" We saw a camera in his hand and another swinging from his neck. Carol was afraid he was a "spy" and warned me to run faster! He caught up with us, a bit out of breath, and when we asked if he were a spy, he chuckled and told us "No, I just want to take your picture." We continued our trek for him, laughing all the way, and he snapped our photo. We were shocked and delighted to see we ended up on the front page of the Saturday Berkshire Eagle. My mother told me that we were very fortunate to have been photograhped by Mr. Librizzi. I agree. Thank you Mr. Librizzi for taking all of those wonderful photographs of the people and places in Berkshire County.

I have some photos that Joel took of my grandfather ice fishing for an eagle calender]from 1962 . I cherish these black & white classics . Also I
remember in the early 1990's Joel took
some pictures of my father-in-law
as a VFW commander donating a U.S. Flag
to Morningside School. He kindly shared
the originals upon request .
These photos are now our family treasures.

My condolences to the family .

My thoughts and prayers are with the Librizzi family. Joel took my son Jerome on many hikes in his beloved woods and caves, and also put his picture in the eagle a few times. He will sadly be missed.

I was so saddened to hear of Joel's passing. Working with him here at The Eagle for many years, I got to see first hand not only what a remarkable photographer he was, but even more of what a remarkable man he was. He was always so kind and friendly and never too busy to stop and say hello and have a kind word. He was a very gentle soul. The world is a better place because of him. May he rest in peace.

I was so saddened to see that Joel had passed. The last time I saw him he was telling me all about the great healthy diet he was on, he inspired me to eat better. When I was a kid he was dating Cynthia Bruno who lived with my family while she was at college. Joel used to come over and help us in our yard. I remember vividly the day he came and help my Mom, sister and me take hundreds of rocks out of our yard on Quirico Dr. As a kid I thought he was so strong to be able to do that all day! I also remember that he had the best hair! He took picutes of my Mom our cat and me. The picture of my Mom was one of the best I have and it is displayed in my home. I still have them all. I loved running into him over the years. He always had a hug and a smile for me. I'm so very sorry.

My condolences to the Librizzi family. I also lived with my family on Circular Avenue. My fondest memory of Joel was when he showed up to photograph " Berkshire's First Rocket Shoot Includes a Very-Alive Payload". That was Wednesday, May 15, 1964, I along with my fellow rocketeers were fifteen years old when we launched 'Little Caesar' our mouse off into the wild blue yonder from Root Park. Joel was thirty......very fond memories indeed! Thank you Joel!

To the family,
My family and I grew up on Circular Avenue near your family.
I vividly remember Ray, Carla and thier parents and the wonderful times we all shared. My brothers and I were frequently photographed by Ray and found ourselves in the Eagle for various holidays etc.
As an adult working in social services, I had many occasions to call on Ray for various fund raising events and he was always eager to please. His committment to his community was outstanding and the loss to the community profound.
Pittsfield has lost a true legend
Disability prohibits me from attending his wake or funeral but my heart and deepest sympathies to all of the Librizzi family who have given so much to us all.

Joel was an inspiration to me early in my career as a longtime Berkshire County photographer. He was always available for friendly conversation and to talk "shop".

There are so many wonderful things to remember about Joel. I will never forget how he would bound into the Berkshire Eagle Northern Berkshire Bureau or a photo location, all energy and questions, and then turn out astounding photographs. He was a true force in the world of photojournalism.

David,
