Karl Joppich Obituary
He was born on April 15, 1928, in Adams, a son of August and Maria Kabierske Joppich. He attended schools in Adams and Cheshire He served with the United States Army during the Korean War.
A lifelong resident of Cheshire, he was last employed for General Electric Co. as a crane operator for 20 years, retiring from the power transformer department in 1987. Prior to working at GE, he worked at the former Arnold Print Works in Adams and Lamb’s Garage in Cheshire. Mr. Joppich also ran the family farm on Wells Road in Cheshire all his life.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and a member of the National Rifle Association and AARP. He enjoy-
ed hunting, motorcycling, traveling and working on mechanical equipment. He also enjoyed watching his grandson Ryan play football and baseball and spending time with his family and his dog.
His wife, the former Marie “Peanie” Bona, whom he married on Sept. 27, 1952, died on Oct. 24, 1986.
He leaves a daughter, Karen M. Luczynski of Cheshire and her husband, Timothy; three sons, Paul S. Joppich, Mark A. Joppich and Joseph A. Joppich and his wife, Rebecca, all of Cheshire; five grandchildren, Trevor, Heather and Ryan Joppich and Matthew and Nathan Luczynski; three step-grandchildren, Nolan, Aaron and Zachery Brassard; and his longtime companion, Alvina Turoczy of Adams.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marianne J. Truran, in 2003 and by a daughter in law, MaryAnn Polumbo-Joppich, in 1998.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Karl A. Joppich will be Monday, Oct. 22, at 9:15 a.m. from the Dery-Cheshire Funeral Home. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. from St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire, with the Rev. David Raymond, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Cheshire Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Cheshire Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
