Mark Mytrowitz Obituary

Athens - Former Athens resident Mark "Microwave" Mytrowitz, 52, died Friday, February 15, 2008.
Born in Kearny, NJ and raised in Melbourne, FL, he was the son of the late Alexander Mytrowitz and Ruth Edna Decker.
Known affectionately to his friends and family as Microwave, he enjoyed a successful, life-long career in the music industry. An avid surfer in his youth, he embarked on his career path by owning and operating his own lighting system. From his early 20's on, he worked as a guitar technician for a number of national acts including Kansas, the Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse, the Producers, Mother's Finest, Echo and the Bunnymen, Sonic Youth and Pearl Jam. During the pinnacle of his career he traveled the globe as guitar tech and equipment manager for R.E.M. A musician in his own right, Micro will best be remembered by his passion for music and the sense of pride and accomplishment he derived from over 30 years in his chosen profession. His unwavering sense of humor and gentle nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Microwave is survived by his brother Brad Mytrowitz of Strongsville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by brothers Lex and Jack.
A memorial is to be determined at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and cards, family and friends request that donations may be made in memory of Microwave to the Athens Area Humane Society, 399 Beaverdam Road Ext., Athens, GA 30605.

I am a longtime R.E.M. fan, and hearing this is as sad to me as when Bill left the band, bud more so because the world lost a GREAT person. Microwave, rest easy. You are no longer in pain. That smile and infectious personality will spread throughout Heaven. Go play guitar with Jimi while Janis and Jim sing, marveling at your genius. Get the place ready for us. See you up there!

To Microwave's loved ones, I am saddened by your loss.
He helped create some of the most beautiful music ever made, and his work, especially with R.E.M., has been an important part of my life. My deepest sympathies.

I knew him many years ago when he first arrived from Melbourne FLA. He was so excited about his life in Rock and Roll. He had made an in ivestment with his LIGHT show. He hung with a local band and was very loyal. He soon moved on to bigger and better things. He was so sweet loyal and ultimately a swell human being I will always remember you Little MO CK

I met you on my first trip to Athens back in 2000, I was a young Irish REM fan visiting the hometown of my all time favourite band. We bumped into eachother outside the bands office, you kindly posed for a photo and made me feel welcome whenever you saw me around town. I'll always remember you as a wonderful human being. May you RIP Micro.
