Constance Monroe Obituary

WARRENSBURG Constance "Connie" Lee Monroe, 60, of Marion Avenue, Warrensburg, passed away at 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital, from complications due to a longtime illness. Born Jan. 4, 1948, at Glens Falls Hospital, she was the only child born to Joyce J. (Robillard) and the late Frederick "Don" Jackson. Connie graduated from Queensbury High School, Class of 1965. From 1980 until her retirement in 2000, she was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation, where she met her husband, Gene. They were married Feb. 19, 1983 and resided in Warrensburg for the next 25 years. With a love for all animals, big and small, Connie had a lifelong passion for horses, which included competitive horseback trail rides, showings and barrel racing. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. Her father predeceased Connie. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Monroe, of Warrensburg; her mother, Joyce Jackson, of Warrensburg; one daughter, Kelly Vincent, and her husband, Michael, of Clifton Park; one son, Kevin Monroe, his wife, Cheryl, and their two children, Tyler and Kayla Monroe, all of Fort Ann; one aunt, Lillian McDonnell, of Fort Edward; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many dear friends. At Connie's request, memorial services will be privately held with the Rev. Pattie Girard, pastor of Trinity United Methodist church in Wilton, officiating. Burial will also be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations, in loving memory of Connie, may be made to the SPCA of Upstate N.Y., 588 Queensbury Ave. Queensbury, NY 12804. Joyce and family, I am so saddened to her about Connie. I had been thinking of her just 2 weeks ago. We have e-mail each other at times. I do so wished that we had gotten together. I graduated with Connie and she was a great person and good friend. I have a little story that I would like to share with all. As you know Connie was a great horse rider. Well she took me riding one day, never really being on a horse before. She told me everything would be fine. The horse knew the trail and just hang on. Well that I had to do. She took me over a trail that the horse was use to going on. This trail include some jumps that I was not aware of. Hanging on tight we made the jump the horse and I. Then the horse took off and went on its own not following Connie and her horse, because I had let go of the ranes and hung on to the saddle horn(is that correct?) for hopefully staying on the horse. She had to come and get me. I held on for dear life thinking at that time this would be my only and last ride, and it was. When we returned to her house I had raw skin on my inner knees from hanging on so tight. She then so kindly put some cream on my knees which happened to be bengay. You can only imagine then how I screamed. She laugh, said I didn't know that would hurt. Well that was the end of my riding career. I will always remember that day, not as a bad day, but a day with my friend Connie. She was full of fun, lots a spirit, and just a great person. I hope that she and her Dad are riding up there together. I'll miss you Connie and all your Jokes on the e-mail. Your long time Friend, Diana
