Orlando Swinton Obituary

Mechanicville Orlando "Red" Swinton, 64, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at his son's home, surrounded by his family, in Mechanicville after a long battle with cancer. Born on Aug. 23, 1943, in Troy, N.Y., he was the son of Howard and Frances (Blake) Swinton. He lived in the Capital District his entire life. Orlando was a respected and well-liked mechanic who worked for Otis Elevator for 35 years. A sportsman at heart, he not only loved the friendly camaraderie of fishing, but the peaceful serenity of nature as well. His infectious personality, sense of humor and his ability to talk to anyone about anything will be forever remembered by his friends, family and loved ones. Red was a special person and a great friend. Red is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey Swinton of New Jersey and Benjamin Swinton and his wife, Christie, of Mechanicville; his two grandchildren, Chloe Swinton and Caleb Swinton, both of Mechanicville; his brother, Howard Swinton of Baja Peninsula, Mexico; his sister, Mary Ann Keenan of Greenwich; his companion, Bonnie Nemeyer of Queensbury and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Monday, June 2, 2008, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury, with the Rev. Joseph Anselment officiating. There will be no calling hours. Those who wish may send a remembrance in memory of Red to The Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, or to CR Wood Cancer Center, Glens Falls Hospital, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.

Please except my sympathy at this difficult time. Red was certainly one of the closest co-workers that I had the pleasure of working with for some 35 plus years. Not only as a co-worker but as a friend his friendly personality and infectious ways will be forever missed. We had a lot of great times from working together,to the early days of snowmobile partys at dover lane. Will think of you often.

A big smile with a good-natured, sincere "How ya doin" are how I'll always remember Red...our earthly loss for now but the Lord's gain and all of Heaven's. But be sure we'll see him later - in the blink of an eye.
