Robert Crighton Obituary
west charlton, n.y. Robert A. Crighton, 84, of West Charlton, N.Y. passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany after a short illness.
Born on Dec. 6, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Alexander and Katherine Crighton. Robert was raised in Schenectady and was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1942 and entered active duty in February
1943. He served in the Pacific Theatre as a Lieutenant JG in the Navy Air Corps as a navigator. He was released to inactive duty in June 1946 and was honorably discharged in October 1954.
Robert married Frances R. Jenks on June 28, 1947 and graduated from Siena College as a CPA in 1950. They resided in Queensbury, N.Y. for more than 13 years until moving to Jonesville and later to West Charlton.
Robert worked as a CPA in various firms, most recently owning and operating his own accounting firm with his wife in Glenville, N.Y. until their retirement.
He was a member in good standing for over 40 years of the Free & Accepted Masons, the former Corlaer Lodge No. 932, now the Schenectady Lodge No. 1174, a member of the Sigma Bodies Valley of Schenectady A.A.S.R., the Oriental Shriners, Troy, N.Y. and the Troy Court Royal Order of Jesters.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Frances, who passed away on March 21, 2008 and brothers, Alexander Jr. and James Crighton.
Survivors include his sister in-law, Norma Winchell of Queensbury; five nieces and nephews: Jamie Crighton and Jonathan (Becki) Crighton both of Oregon, Vernon (Joanne) Jenks Jr. of Olmsteadville, N.Y., Deborah (Gary) Tash of Melrose, N.Y. and Steven Winchell of Queensbury, N.Y.; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
