Anne Jones Obituary

QUEENSBURY Anne Lorraine Jones, 88, a resident of Queensbury and formerly of New York City, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital. She was born on April 6, 1920, in Hudson Falls and was the daughter of the late Anthony and Aurora (Gaulin) Jones. Anne was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls and Marymount College in Tarrytown. She received her Master of Arts from Hunter College in New York. Her business career was spent in New York City in the public relations field. Later in life, she taught in Harlem in the New York City Public School System, then retired in the early 1980s. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Constance Tompkins and an infant sister, Nanette Jones. Survivors include a sister, Marjorie M. Jones of Queensbury; she is also survived by one niece, Mary Anne (Alex) Toppan of South Kent, Conn.; and several nephews: Christopher (Regina) Tompkins of Palm Bay, Fla., Brian (Pamela) Tompkins of Troy, Ohio, and Kiernan (Suzanne) Tompkins of Lithia, Fla.; brother-in-law, Francis J. Tompkins of Bridgewater, Conn.; 10 grandnieces and nephews and one great-great-grandniece and her very special friend and caretaker, Valerie Duddy of Glens Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Edward. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Singleton-Healy Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road, Queensbury. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Joseph Mihindu and the staff of the Glens Falls Hospital for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Those who wish, may send a remembrance in Anne's name to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York City, NY 10021.
