Dorothy Savage Obituary

NORTH CREEK Dorothy M. Savage, 86, of state Route 28, passed away, Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born on Aug. 30, 1921, in Lake George, she was the daughter of the late Bryon and Jennie (Mosher) Straight. Dorothy graduated from the Lake George High School in 1940, and married Harold I. Savage. For a number of years, she worked at the Mack Drug Store and CVS until she retired at 62. She was also well known in the area as an Avon Representative for many years. She enjoyed many pastimes including visiting with friends and relatives, ceramics, knitting, crafts, and tending to her beloved African violets. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and James. She is survived by her children: Wayne Savage and his wife, Chris, of Coshocton, Ohio; Thomas Savage of Wevertown; Gary Savage of Blountstown, Fla.; and Darlene Watsaw and her husband, James, of Wevertown; two sisters, Beatrice and DeEtta Vanguilder, both of North Creek; brother, Charles and his wife, Mildred, of Lake George; three grandsons; and one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; two step granddaughters; two step great-grandsons; and a step great-granddaughter; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call on Dorothy's family from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday evening, July 18, at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 4479 state Route 28, North River. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home with Arnold Stevens, a close relative and friend, officiating. Internment will follow in Bates Cemetery in Johnsburg. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Johnsburg EMS, P.O. Box 413, North Creek, NY 12853. Dorothy was one of my Coag Clinic patients in NC (my favorite patient, honestly!). She was one of the sweetest little ladies I have ever met. I will miss her terribly, especially on Thursday mornings, when I used to see her.
