Grant Manning Obituary

Ticonderoga Grant Manning Sr., 81, of Ticonderoga, passed away Friday, July 18, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Albany. Born in Ticonderoga, on Feb. 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Clyde and Myrtle (Snow) Manning. Grant has been a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII, where he took part in the battles of Iwo Jima and Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was employed by Reale Construction Company of Ticonderoga as a general foreman for many years. He was also the owner and operator of Manning's Bait Shop of Ticonderoga. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 224 of Ticonderoga. Grant was predeceased by one daughter, Hope Manning and by one son, Grant "Buzzy" Manning Jr. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Ken Manning, Clyde Manning and Bruce Manning; and by three sisters, Julia Stone, Virginia Sartwell and Ruth Brittain. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary L. (Alteri) Manning; two sons, Michael Manning and his wife, Debbie, of Hague, and Gary Manning and his wife, Shellie, of Saranac Lake; four daughters, Mary Lou Brown and her husband, Mickey, of South Glens Falls, Sandra LaFountain and her husband, Eugene, of Hudson Falls, Kathy Robb and her husband, Lee, of Hartford, and Cynthia Manning and her companion, Bob Sellingham, of Hartford; and one sister, Barbara Savoy of Argyle. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a special cousin, Dorothy Clark, of Connecticut. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will take place on Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the family plot of the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Mr. Elliott A. Shaw will officiate. The pallbearers will be Larry Gaulin, Jeffrey Gaulin, Michael Manning Jr., Joseph Trzaskos, Todd Manning, Lee Robb Jr. and Karney Manning. A gathering will take place at the Manning home at 101 Cossey St., Ticonderoga, following the service.
