James Baird Obituary

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. James G. Baird, 78, of Palm Springs, Calif., formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, with his family by his side. He was born on March 28, 1930, in Lawrenceville, N.Y., the second of three sons born to Lester and Helen Baird. Jim was a 1948 graduate of South Glens Falls High School. He married the former Jean L. Purington, also of Glens Falls, in 1951. He graduated from Skidmore College, receiving his master's degree from Syracuse University. Serving his country in the U.S. Army, Jim attained executive positions with Price Waterhouse and Anchor Hocking Corporation. He retired as a vice president from Eagle Picher Industries in Cincinnati, Ohio. Throughout his life Jim was involved in many civic and professional organizations. He enjoyed traveling, entertaining and numerous hobbies. Jim will be remembered for his generosity, kindness and sophisticated sense of style. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched. Jim is survived by loving partner of 18 years Herbert G. Parrott Jr.; Devoted daughters and their partners, Phyllis (Alan) Kilbarger of Milford, Ohio; Nancy (Rick) Broemsen of Morrow, Ohio; Susan Baird (Kathy Tarrier) of Columbus, Ohio; Dear brother, Paul (Dorothy) Baird of Glens Falls, N.Y.; Beloved grandchildren: Benjamin and Sarah Kilbarger; Christopher and Kelsey Broemsen; Chase Tarrier and Hanley Baird; newborn great-grandson, Christian Broemsen and numerous nieces, nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by wife, Jean L. Baird; Parents, Lester S. and Helen G. Baird and brother, Lester S. Baird Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to City of Hope, 1500 East Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010-0269. The family wishes to extend deep gratitude to that facility's staff for their extraordinary care and compassion during Jim's battle with lung cancer. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, Cincinnati, OH. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 24, at Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio. Reception immediately following. There will be an additional reception in Palm Springs to celebrate Jim's life with the date to be announced.

I just now found out Jim passed away a long time ago..am sorry I did not know this..I served on the Cincinnati Opera Board with Jim and he and I along with his Jean and my Wally enjoyed dinners out and plays, operas etc..so sorry to post this so late, my husband passed away 2013...prayers for Jim's daughters and families..

Jim, You were a special friend to me and Bob on our trips to Palm Springs over the past years. I was heart broken to find about your passing but know now you are no longer suffering. You touched so many lives and were a very SPECIAL PERSON and a GREAT FRIEND. Herb, cherish all the wonderful memories and know he is with you every moment. JIM, May you rest in Peace.
