John Villeneuve Obituary

NORTH CREEK John H. Villeneuve, 90, of Main Street, passed into the arms of the Lord, Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born July 20, 1917, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late J. Henry and Susie (Sargent) Villeneuve. John was a lifelong resident of the area. He joined the U. S. Army in May of 1942. He served in the European Theater of Operations with the rank of sergeant, seeing combat at Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. He returned home from active duty and married Agnes Freebern on Dec. 28, 1948. John worked in various roles at Barton Mines Corp. in North River before retiring in 1982, after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a 60-year member and past commander of the North Creek American Legion Post 629. He also was a 68-year member of the North Creek Volunteer Fire Co. His favorite pastimes included playing poker with his buddies, bowling, hunting and tending to his garden. Besides his parents, his two brothers, Richard and Leo Villeneuve and his three sisters, Helen Christman, Doris Israel, and Pauline Lynn have all predeceased him. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Agnes Villeneuve of North Creek; his daughter, Lorrie Porter-Bedard of West Chazy; two granddaughters, Nicole McGrath and her husband, Michael, of Queensbury, and Marah Bedard of West Chazy; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on John's family from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., 4479 state Route 28, North River. Funeral services beginning with members of the North Creek American Legion Post 629 and concluding with the Rev. Trudy Pettibone, pastor of the North Creek Baptist Church, will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in Union Cemetery, North Creek. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the North Creek Baptist Church, North Creek, NY 12853.
