Robert Conrad Obituary
LAKE GEORGE Robert C. Conrad, 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at the Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls.
Born on July 16, 1925, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Clarence and Mildred (Erbes) Conrad.
Mr. Conrad was raised in Buffalo, N.Y.
He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1943. After serving in Europe, he was honorably discharged in 1948, to accept civilian employment with the armed forces and was commended by the commanding general, European forces for accomplishments in the French zone of occupied Germany.
Returning to Buffalo in 1951, he attended the University of Buffalo evenings, while working full time, earning his degree in business and graduating with honors in 1956.
After serving several major corporations in varying accounting positions and moving to New Jersey, Mr. Conrad joined the United States Treasury Department in 1969, where he became a specialist in tax shelter operations and distinguished himself in his work with the federal courts. He was also called to Washington, D.C. for special commendation by the commissioner in recognition of his services. He retired in 1989 and returned to New York, settling in Lake George.
Mr. Conrad's main interests were music, sports, travel, World War II history, and photography. He particularly enjoyed cruising the high seas, which he did rather frequently after retiring. His music, photo, and military interests provided contentment as well.
Mr. Conrad was a World War II veteran, a member of the First Baptist Church of Legewood, N.J., a member of the American Legion Post No. 347 of Larchmont, N.Y., and a Master Mason of the Free and Accepted Masons of Northeast Lodge No. 995 of Buffalo, N.Y.
Mr. Conrad was predeceased by his wife, Barbara R. Conrad, who died Aug. 7, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Conrad and his wife, Kathy, of Jackson, N.J. and Ronald Conrad and his wife, Joan, of Lumberton, N.J.; and one sister, Jean Keleman of Pennsylvania.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Evergreen Cemetery, Birch Avenue, Lake George with the Rev. Casper Green of the First Baptist Church of Glens Falls officiating. A military forces honor guard committal will follow.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Stafford Funeral Home, Inc., 90 Montcalm St., Lake George.
