Doris Wilson Obituary

SOUTH GLENS FALLS Doris L. Wilson, 83, of Jackson Avenue, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at the Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in E. Hardwick, Vt., on June 3, 1924, she was the daughter of Elwin P. and Eula Josephine (Ashe) Waterman. Doris grew up in Hudson Falls and went to school there. She married Charles M. Wilson and they settled in South Glens Falls. During World War II, Doris worked in Schenectady for the war effort. She was a seamstress at Troy Shirt Factory in Glens Falls and then she went to work for the South Glens Falls school system as one of the first two female school bus drivers. She retired from South Glens Falls School System Transportation Department after 27 years of lovingly delivering children to and from school. Doris' real love in life was her handwork. She did the embroidery for many local businesses such as Gold Stocks, Telescope Furniture and Punk Limers. She embroidered banners for many fire companies and emergency squads. As a result, she was made and honorary member of the Moreau Emergency Squad. She always made her own clothing and "did it her way" in many areas of her life. She also was an avid bowler in many local leagues. Besides her parents, "Mum and Pop," she was predeceased by her husband, who passed away in October of 1984, a brother, Neil Waterman and a sister, Sylvia Braun Waterman. Survivors include her son, Charles M. Wilson Jr. of South Glens Falls; her two sisters and brother: Ethel Moss and her husband, Leonard, of South Glens Falls; Theodore "Sonny" Waterman of Topeka, Kan., and Romona Clements of the town of Moreau and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p. m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls. E-mail condolences may be sent at mbkilmer.com. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Patti Girard, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church of Wilton, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Southside Cemetery. The family would like to say a special thank you to the giving and loving provided by the Saratoga Co. Hospice volunteers while Doris was in their care. Donations may be made in Doris' memory to American Cancer Society, Mount Royal Plaza, 959 state Route 9, Queensbury, NY 12804; The Hospice Community, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or Moreau Emergency Squad, Inc., 1583 state Route 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828-9433.

"Honey"
I will miss all the times that we talked and had fun,the ooogaaa horn I put in your van when you drive up behind me trying to scare me. I will miss you asking me if I was looking for trouble and that I have found her. Most of all I will miss you. My deepest sympathy for all our families and all the people that knew her as Doris or Honey. I know you will keep looking down from above and trying to help Chucky to continue on the road of life.
Love and Miss You

I am sorry to hear of Mrs. Wilson's passing. I am one of the many, many students that she transported over the years on her route. I've always remembered her, and often saw her sitting on her porch while riding my bike down Jackson Ave. Thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Charles and family,
I was sorry to hear of the death of Doris. I spent a good deal of my youth walking the half block between her house and my own to get something sewed on or embroydered. My mother Sharon, was also a bus driver so we had many conversations over the years. She will certainly be missed.
