Grant Kerst Obituary

Indian Lake Grant D. "Dan" Kerst passed away after a long illness on Wednesday evening, Nov. 7, 2007, at the home where he was born. Born on Dec. 24, 1935, in Sabael, N.Y., he was the second son of the late Grant Leo Kerst and Edna Elizabeth (Morehouse) Kerst. He graduated from Hardee County High School in Wauchula, Fla. in 1954. He attended Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla., from 1954 to 1958. He served two years in the United States Army. Dan worked for several companies, which include the family business, Kerst Boat Livery in Sabael, Greyhound Bus Lines in Florida, Barton Mines in North Creek, R.C. Machines, Queensbury and NAMIC in Glens Falls, prior to his retirement in 2005. Dan had many hobbies. Among them were boating, computers, CB radios, taping old movies and photography. Both parents predeceased him, as well as one brother, Arthur William Kerst. Dan's wife of 23 years, Constance Braymer Kerst, survives him, as well as four sons: Grant Leo Kerst of Florida, Kenneth Daniel Kerst of Sabael, N.Y., Donald William Kerst of Virginia and Daniel Grant Kerst of Florida; one brother, Jean Bertolet Kerst, of Oneida, N.Y.; as well as one stepdaughter, two stepsons, five granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. At Dan's request, there are no calling hours scheduled. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at the Independent Baptist Church of Indian Lake, with the Rev. Alfred Hartwig, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar River Cemetery, Indian Lake. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Indian Lake Ambulance Corps, Indian Lake, NY 12842 or High Peaks Hospice, Saranac Lake, P.O. Box 840, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.

Dear Connie,
I was sorry to hear of Dan's passing. He was such a nice person and one of the very best Namic ever had! I was so proud and happy for you both when you tied the note....perhaps one of the marriages between two individuals working for the Company. You were both wonderful! It was people like the both of you that made it a very special place to work.

There's so much I want to say...I wish I was able to be there in person to say it....he was a wonderful man and the best kind of friend I could ever ask for...my sympathies to Connie and the boys, Jean and the rest of the Kerst clan. Dan left a void that can't be replaced.
