Madelyn Buckley Obituary

Lake George The family of Madelyn M. Buckley, 87, is saddened to announce her passing on, Thursday Nov. 22, 2007, at the Westmount Health Facility. Madelyn was born in 1920, the daughter of Lyle and Mary (Campbell) Joiner of Fort Edward, N.Y. Madelyn graduated from Fort Edward High School in 1938, and from Plattsburgh State College in 1942. Locally, she taught in the O'Donnell School, the Abraham Wing School and St. Mary's in Niagara Falls. Madelyn started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse near Granville, N.Y. Her fondest memory was starting the day by making a big pot of oatmeal for her students. In 1944, she married Rollin (Terry) Buckley, who predeceased her in 1979. Besides being a wonderful mother, Madelyn enjoyed gardening, genealogy, her beloved pets and long rides in the country where she would often say "let's keep on going and get lost." She was an avid reader, who loved poetry, history and anything to do with Ireland. Survivors include her sister, Claire Rifenberg of Venice, Fla.; her brother, Leonard Joiner and wife, Dorothy, of Fort Edward; four children: Terry Buckley of Glens Falls, Dennis Buckley and wife, Sharon, of Pennsylvania, Joan Buckley and husband, Mike Currie, of Warrensburg and Dianne Brown and husband, John, of Glen Lake; four granddaughters: Meghan Allshouse and husband, Todd, of Pennsylvania, Allyson Smith and husband, Jeff, of Georgia, Christa Terry and husband, Paul, of Hudson Falls and Shannon Buckley Brown of Glen Lake and one great-grandson, Ayden Buckley Smith of Georgia. At Madelyn's request, there are no calling hours scheduled and a graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to thank the Westmount staff for their excellent care, warmth and friendship to Madelyn during her stay there, and a special thank you to Jane Maranville for being such a good friend to Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Madelyn's memory to The Resident Council Fund, Westmount Health Facility, 42 Gurney Lane, Glens Falls, NY 12801. To Dianne.... my friend and co-worker. Though I never had the chance to meet your Mom, I know how much she meant to you. Bless your heart for being so good to her during her time in the nursing home. We're thinking of you, John and your family.

Joan and Family, My kindest thoughts go out to you today. I worked at GFH for 23 years and also knew Sharon years ago. My Mom and your Mom was at WMT the same time. Our Mom's are at a better place now.
