Eleanor D. Young

FORT EDWARD Eleanor D. Young of Lamplighter Acres in Fort Edward, passed away on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at her home, while being cared for by her family. Eleanor, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Wiltsey) Douglas, was born on Dec. 26, 1923. She attended one of the last remaining one room schoolhouses in the area at Reynolds Corners, and then went to South Glens Falls Central schools, where she graduated with the Class of 1942. Eleanor married Robert O. Young of Hudson Falls on Oct. 18, 1942. Eleanor was employed by the General Electric Company for more than 35 years. After her retirement, she and Bob moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C. She lived there for 15 years, returning to this area in 2002. After moving home, Eleanor volunteered with the Moreau Community Center, helping with the thrift shop, annual garage sales and children's Christmas gift giveaway. She enjoyed taking bus trips, visiting new places and caring for her beloved cat, Pooh. Eleanor was a communicant of St. Michael's the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, after 50 years of marriage. Eleanor is survived by three children: Barbara Stewart and her partner, Liz Aubrey, of South Glens Falls, Robert Young and his wife, Tuula, of Washington D.C. and Becki Cramer and her husband, Jim, of Wilton; her five grandchildren: Leesa Stewart of Montpelier, Vt., Russell Stewart of Lake George, Denise Spiva and her husband, Randy, of Merritt Island Fla. and Tristyn and Patrick Cramer of Wilton; six great-grandchildren: Aveyen and Shaylin Farneth, Russell and Carrie Stewart and James and Angela Spiva; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Eleanor's family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Community Hospice of Saratoga and Interim Health Care of Glens Falls for their help and support during this time. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Robert Nugent, pastor, officiating.
