Joy Thomas Obituary

GANSEVOORT Joy Mary (Usher) Thomas, 68, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 22, 1939, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Beatrice and Kenneth Usher Sr. After attending Glens Falls school, Joy devoted her life to raising her children and taking care of those in need at Eden Park Nursing Home, where she retired from after 25 years. Her daughters were truly blessed to have such a wonderful, loving, supportive and caring mother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Joy loved going to her grandchildren's sporting events, hockey games and watching the Yankees. She also enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls. Joy was predeceased by her parents and her three brothers: Kenneth, Frank and Terry Usher, as well as her sister-in-law, Linda Usher. Joy had a heart of gold and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her ex-husband, Stanley Thomas of Gansevoort; her beloved daughters: Debbie Vickery and her husband, Kevin, of South Glens Falls, Patricia Deyoe and her husband, Kenneth, of Glens Falls, Karen Yurcik and her husband, George, of Gansevoort and Jane Burdick and her husband, Timothy, of Gansevoort; her seven grandchildren: Nicole and Joey Smarro, Lawrence Dellinger, Kristina Neel and her husband, Rick, Thomas Deyoe and his wife, Tiana, Desiree Yurcik and Cody and Kayla Burdick, as well as nine great-grandchild-ren; four brothers: Jack Usher and his wife, Suzette, of Queensbury, David Usher and his wife, Marie, of Ohio, Paul Usher and his wife, Sharon, of Queensbury and Jerry Usher of Glens Falls; her two sisters, Colleen Carpenter and her husband, Michael, of Fort Edward and Kathy Usher and her partner, Dale Dickinson, of Gansevoort; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Usher of Queensbury and Carol Usher of Gansevoort; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends also survive her. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Dufford Sr., officiating Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery. Family and friends will gather after the burial at the St. Alphonsus Church on Crandall Street. Please park in the Irongate Center or on the street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joy's name to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, Glens Falls Hospital, 102 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Orlando Martelo and his loyal and dedicated staff of The Cancer Center in Glens Falls, for their sincere compassionate service; Dr. David Fischer and the warm and compassionate staff at the Dana Farber Institute in Boston and the wonderful and caring staff in the Critical Care Unit of Glens Falls Hospital.

Gram touched so many people in her 68 years w/ us. We and the elderly, and nurses at Eden Park know what a heart she had for helping people as much as possible.
