Arline Ross Obituary

BOLTON LANDING Arline "Sally" Ross, 79, of Trout Lake Road, passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at the Glens Falls Hospital, following a second courageous battle with cancer. Born Sept. 23, 1928, in Bolton Landing, she was the daughter of Merton Guy Hill and C. Alice (Northrup) Hill. Mrs. Ross graduated from Bolton Central School Class of 1946. She married Ernest Lancer Ross on Feb. 5, 1947. She and her husband opened a bed and breakfast in their newly built home on Trout Lake Road. They also operated Sally's Bait Shop on the property. Mrs. Ross was employed as a waitress and hostess at many area fine-dining restaurants. She and her husband, Lancer, owned and operated Ross' Roost in Bolton Landing for more than 10 years. She then was employed by the Warren County Sheriff's Office as a cook and retired in 1991. Mrs. Ross was a member of Bolton Landing Saint Sacrement Episcopal Church and was also a member of the vestry. She was chairperson of the Bolton Republican Committee and worked as an election inspector. She was also a member of the Bolton Landing Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Bolton Landing American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Ross was also a volunteer at the Glens Falls Hospital Guild. She and her husband were avid bowlers in a couple's bowling league and also enjoyed playing cards. Family vacations to Maine were also a source of enjoyment for her. Mrs. Ross loved spending time with her dog, Sophie. Her greatest joy in the world was her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Lancer Ross, who died on July 3, 1996; one brother, Merton Hill Jr.; and by an infant grandson, Cole Anthony Vigil. Mrs. Ross is survived by her eight children: Donna Urtz of Bolton Landing, David Ross of Lake George, Donald Ross and his wife, Jody, of Queensbury, Doreen Brown and her husband, Fred, of Bolton Landing, Dolores Truax and her husband, Curtis Jr., of Bolton Landing, Darren Ross and his wife, Teri, of Queensbury, Dennis Ross and his wife, Donna, of Rochester, Deanne Vigil and her husband, Troy, of Carlsbad, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, Lorie Wood, Lisa Urtz, Christopher Urtz, Tanya Ross, Michele Corentto, Heather French, Ashli Brown, Lance Truax, Ashley Truax, Sara Ross, Elizabeth Ross, Dennis Ross, David Ross and Jennifer Lynn Ross; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marlyn "Bucky" Ringler of Gettysburg, Pa. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at Saint Sacrement Episcopal Church, Bolton Landing, with the Rev. James Loughren, rector, officiating. Burial will follow at Bolton Rural Cemetery, Bolton Landing. A reception will follow the burial at the Saint Sacrement Episcopal Church parish hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Stafford Funeral Home, Inc. of Lake George. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of Glens Falls Hospital Tower 6. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Ross' name may be made to the Saint Sacrement Episcopal Church, Bolton Landing, NY 12814 or to the Bolton Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1054, Bolton Landing, NY 12814.

I remember summers going there to NY and playing and later hanging out with David. I have a lot of memories of being with the whole family in the summer and hear a lot of stories from mom about their friendship.
