Alton Chadwick Obituary

SOUTH GLENS FALLS Alton "Paul" Chadwick, 50, of Main Street, passed away at the Julie Blair Nursing Home on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, following a short illness. Alton was born in Glens Falls, the son of Karl Lester and Ruth Doris (Porter) Chadwick, on July 10, 1957. He grew up in Lake George on Route 149 and graduated from Lake George High School. He entered the Army shortly after graduation and was injured while in training for war games. Upon his return, he married Wendy (Taft) Chadwick in 1987, and, though they divorced, they have remained best of friends to the end. In his younger years, Paul loved playing ice hockey as a goalie. He loved the outdoors and would collect anything. He enjoyed rooting for his beloved Giants and he had a passion for cooking. Survivors include his daughter, Angela Lyn Chadwick of South Glens Falls; his granddaughter, Avery Lyn Chadwick, also of South Glens Falls; his sister, Judith Mary (Chadwick) Baurle and her husband, Donald, of Glens Falls; a brother, William Karl Chadwick and his wife, Carole, of Lake George; a group of Angela's friends who were like daughters to him and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and family may call on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls. E-mail condolences may be sent at www.kilmers.com. A memorial service will take place on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Regina Haag, pastor of Adirondack Friends Meeting, South Glens Falls, officiating. Burial will be in Gurney Lane Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Al was a friend from our short time in the US Army. We both were stationed in Walson Army Hospital, Fort Dix NJ while recovering from knee injuries. Al was a great guy always smiling and joking, everybody liked him and he made my long stay in the hospital bearable and at times, fun! Al's foolish humor and stolen Carlin catch phrases like "scatty huh kids" kept the mood light even though we were long-term patients in a military hospital.
The last time that I talked with Al was in the early 1990's and we talked about getting together or at least keeping in better touch. I wish that I had....
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Al as I know it must be difficult to lose such a person as Al.

Uncle Paul...
I was reading what Donnie had said and remembering the "hide n' seek" game with Tommy and you said you were a tree, OMG!! How funny that night was!! We had lots of fun on the pond ice skating and sleding on the lil hill behind the house,up at camp and just hanging out...
I am sorry I didn't get to see you so much over the last several years other than at our Family get togethers and "other" gatherings...
I am so truly going to miss you!
Please give Gramma & Grampa a GREAT BIG HUG & KISS for me and tell them I Love them both very much and miss them lots!
Love you always...
Your Niece

Uncle Paul,
We were only seperated by 5 years. It was always fun to be at the house and hanging out with you whenever Gramma took us up for the weekend. I'll always remember the spitwad fights, hiking along the old trolley tracks, the fun times at hunting camp, other camping trips we went on, and over all, you were more like my big brother than my uncle. You hooked me on Monty Python and Deep Purple. We had many great times together. I also remember playing hide and seek one night, Tom was "it", and you couldn't find any place to hide, so you put your arms up, and when he came to you, you said "I'm a tree!" and he went on his merry way looking for the rest of us. So many good times, so many memories shared. I'll always look back fondly on what we shared together. Until we meet again, I love ya and I'll miss you.

Dear Billy & Judy,

I really don't know, "What to Say"!!!!!! I shall always recall the fond memories of him & I building forts in your mom's living room, under the dining room table and right under foot, under the kitchen table. We were not supposed to play with the outside hose and the water, but we did. I was a little stinker and have kept this secret for more than 40 years, when we were playing with the water or in the garage and not supposed to be, I used to have to rather convientantly go into the house & the bathroom but while I was there, I used to "snitch or rat" on us. Your Mom Doris then used to come out and give us "hell". Many, Many good memories of my time with your family on 149!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With much love,
Stephen Briggs

He will always be "my baby brother".
Being only few older than my own kids, he was more like "my kid" and part of their gang of friends. Paul was only 3 yrs old when Don & I married ; he called us "Wuvbugs"; he seemed so "little" at 3 yrs old when he visited us at Don's Virginia Army Base in December 1960. He will always be loved and remembered as "my baby brother"!

To my Dad, Aunt Judy and Angie - you were blessed with a great brother and father. My Uncle Paul was probably one of the coolest guys i've ever known. Always greeted you with a smile and always had a story to tell. He will always be remembered and I will miss him terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who knew him.
