Robert Lloyd Obituary

WARRENSBURG Robert E. Lloyd, 80, passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, following a long battle with cancer and Alzheimer's disease. Born on July 14, 1927, in Warrensburg, N.Y., he was a son of the late Wibur and Marion Wood Lloyd. In 2001, Bob and his wife, Barbara, moved from Warrensburg to Irmo to enjoy their retirement in a warmer climate. Bob joined the U.S. Navy when he was 16 years old and served his country in World War II. He worked as a deck hand on the Mohican and accompanied this boat to the dry docks in the fall of 1946, helping in the conversion of the engine to diesel. He then worked at International Paper Company in Corinth. For 20 years, he operated a barber shop and possibly the only known shoeshine chair in Warrensburg, and later expanded this to include a musical instrument shop, where he taught local youths to play guitar and drums. He worked for New York Tech Supply for 22 years, delivering tire repair parts from Saratoga to the Canadian border. He often took one of his daughters on his delivery routes. He retired in 1995. Bob was always ready to help a friend or neighbor as one of Jehovah's Witnesses for 46 years. For 42 years, Bob enjoyed spending Monday nights during the summer calling square dances at Trout Lake club in Bolton Landing, N.Y. On these nights, he enjoyed the company of his beautiful daughters and later his granddaughters. He was a talented musician and truly enjoyed spending time sitting around picking his guitar and jamming with his friends, especially Ernie Brown. He was an avid collector of "stuff" and enjoyed restoring antique wood stoves and old trunks. Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara Penning Lloyd; daughters and sons-in-law: Donna and John Webster of Warrensburg, Debra and Jeffrey Blais of Columbus, Ga. and Darcy and Robert Murray of Middletown, Del.; grandchildren: Julie TenEyck and her husband, Jeremiah, of Ballston Spa, N.Y., Jessica Webster of Warrensburg, Lily and Lucie Blais of Columbus, Ga., and Jennifer and Jared Murray of Middletown, Del.; great-grandchildren, Cole TenEyck and Tanner Webster; brothers: William and his wife, Marie, of Diamond Point, N.Y., Arnold and his wife, Ann, of Warrensburg, N.Y. and Thomas and his friend, Joyce Witz, of Thurman, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Brian Penning; sister-in-law, Beverly Penning; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service that will take place at the Warrensburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Horicon Ave., Warrensburg, on Friday at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer's Association.
