Mary Grimes-Anderson Obituary

GRIMES-ANDERSON, MARY, 82 - of Ocean City, surrounded by family passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Shores of Wesley Manor, Ocean City. Born Mary U. Roland October 13, 1925 in Philadelphia, Mary attended Saint Martin of Tours and Little Flower High School and married Joseph P. Grimes. Mary and Joseph raised nine children and became the proud grandparents of 25 grandchildren. After her years as a homemaker, Mary completed her education and became a Montessori teacher. Upon moving to South Jersey, Mary turned next to a career in real estate as an agent for Berger Realty and later as office administrator of Ocean City Realty retiring at age 80 in 2006. Mary was remembered by her co-workers for her tireless work ethic and commitment to fulfilling obligation. To those who sought to shorten the workday, she chided "you won't make it in this town working part-time." Family and friends remember Mary as an inspiration to young women as she balanced family and career and enjoyed life to the fullest and to young men teaching by her example that chivalry and gender equality do co-exist. Mary survived her husbands, Joseph P. Grimes of Philadelphia, Roy Anderson of Ventnor and Mackey Corson of Ocean City and is survived by her children, Joseph (Sharon) Grimes of Ocean City, Rocky (Vicki) Grimes, of Gilbert, AZ, Peg (John) Engelhardt of Kettering, OH, Maria Santilli of Huntingdon Valley, PA, Mike (Cathy) Grimes of Lower Merion, PA, Frank (Kim) Grimes of Huntingdon, PA, Jim Grimes of Ocean City, Pat (Mari) Grimes of Haddonfield, and Mark (Julie) Grimes of Marmora; and 25 grandchildren. Friends may call Sunday afternoon, June 29th from four o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday morning, June 30th at 10 o'clock from St. Augustine's R. C. Church, 13th Street at Wesley Avenue where friends may call from 9 until 9:45 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation be made in Mary memory to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for Neurosciences Foundation (wwwjefferson.edu) or the United Methodist Homes Foundation (www.umh-nj.org).
